I have had my PS3 for about a year now and it has been running fine so far. No overheating, I've been keeping it dust free, etc. But just yesterday, my brother went to watch a movie and came back telling me there is a problem.
I walk in to see a flashing red light in place of the normal green light that is seen on a running PS3. I instinctively switch of the power switch, take the power cord out, check all connections (hdmi, power, ethernet), and switch the thing back on. It greets me immediately with three beeps and the flashing red light again. No booting, no anything. I tried resetting several times with the same result each time.
After searching the net for possible issues I came across three possibilities. Overheating; this I know not to be an issue as the system was room temperature when turned on and is in a well ventilated area. A failing hard disk; I tried reseating the hard drive thinking maybe it got jostled around somehow, but the problem persists. the hard disk could be the culprit. Option 3 is a hardware failure, which I find hard to track down as unlike my desktop, this thing is all integrated with the motherboard.
Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it? I am not sure if this thing is still under warranty so I want to avoid taking it apart if possible.
