So I was debating picking up a cheap nvidia 9 serious card for my 3rd PCI spot on my motherboard. My second HD 5870 will be getting here tomorrow hopefully. AM I crazy?

physx isnt worth it just enjoy the 5870(s) and call it good lol no need for physx it will be dead eventually anyway meaning investing in a 9series card etc would be a waste of good money

well, with the performance those 2 cards get a physx card might not be worth it for most games, but if you do want to get something that can run physx good on the cheap, the cheapest effective card for physx is the 8800GS, in physx its apps faster than the 9600GT and a little shower than the 8800GT

If you can buy a used&cheap nvidia DX10 card (needs to be better than 9500GT/8600GT to be worth it, a GT220 should suffice), and then you sell it for approx. the same price a few weeks later (after trying Mirror's Edge and such), I say why not?

I would pay some 10-20$ (price difference between buying and selling the geforce) just to try the physX in some games. Even if it was to end up coming to forums to brag about how PhysX is useless because I tried it before.

Just my 2 cents.

dont bother, PhysX isnt worth it

Agree :toast:
Also looking at benches I can't help recommending CF 5850,since they clock higher and are cheaper

then try it out its possible just i dont honestly believe its worth the effort examples of physx

Sacred2 = more floating leaves YIPPIE for leaves

Mirrors Edge = cloth that tears glass that shatters dont need physx to do that its been done with out thats just lazy on the devs not to mention most of that you wont notice when running jumping and dodging enemies

UT3 extreme phsyx mod = gimmick much no real gameplay improvements with it so not really worth it

so among the few game titles that have it i dont see where it makes a difference its a nice addon but the trouble of making it work just seems like a hassel for a few gimmicks worth about 20mins of oh thats intresting and then forget about it

if you are into phx so much then wait for cracked drivers to use the radeon as phyx then you wont even need new card

^^ You never said what you are doing with the cards. Is this to play PhysX games or benchmarks? I'd like to see a vantage score with two 5870's and a GTX275 for PhysX. It should score really well. What are you running the 5870's at?

My sole intention would be to break the P30k+ mark, and the only way to do that is to have crazy distorted CPU marks. I think my Corsair 850W can handle the power requirements, just need to steal the GTX 275 one night from my GFs case...

hmm you could always cook dinner giver her a foot massage and when she asks what the catch is let her have it :toast: she gets what she wants she wont argue and you can benchmark like a madman also hell you can forget the benchmarking and actually go bench something  i am fairly certain she wont care at that point haha
