4850X2 fan speed

So I've got one of the 4850X2 (2x512mb) from saphire, I also have one of the first 4850's (512mb) I think was from visiontek.

The 4850X2 runs alot cooler and is ALOT louder, I've been playing with the bios editor to try and get a better fan ramp for the X2.

The problems I've run into is that minimum duty cycle doesn't seem to work, so if I set my start temprature for the ramp too high then I have issues where the chip heats up right to when the fan kicks on, then I get a nasty sound of the fan spinning up and then spinning down, very annoying.

Even underload the X2 is only hitting 75c or so, while the single 4850 is doing 90-95c underload.

I think the fan speed lookup table would be the best way to handle the problem, but the one time I tried to load a lookup table based on I got a nasty blue screen on reboot (disabled crossfire, reflashed and I was okay).

Is there a trick to using the lookup table?
Also all testing was using RBE 1.22(although I have 1.23 now) and winflash 2.0.1.1

Can you post the 4850X2 BSOD and a clean copy of the 4850X2 bios?

well I'm already back up and running from the BSOD so that's not a big deal.

Here is the stock bios, and the bios I'm currently running on the X2. I dont' have a copy of the table lookup one I did.

Can you control the fan speeds within the Catalyst Control Center at the overdrive tab?

yeah, and my modded bios's do a decent job at what I want (I just yesterday cranked the top speed from what I had been using 110c to the 130-140c range, that seemed to get load fan speeds down quite a bit.

I'm just curious as to why using the fan table got me a blue screen. If there is a known limitation with different fan controllers or something like that.

Or if there are any known tricks, as some settings like PWM hysteresis sound like they are there specifically for quieting fans.

Which fan speed do you find acceptable for idle? Do you mind if the fan gets noisy during gaming?

well at idle even 5% is plenty of fan for cooling, so that would be good.

50% fan speed on this praticular card is about as loud as I'd like for gaming. 40% is good for gaming volume.

Which temps do you get if you lock the fan speed with CCC at 40% during gaming/stressing ?
