Problems overclocking...

Hello all,

First off I'm trying to overclock my HiS x800 pro (non VIVO). I let ati tool detect my max core, then clocked core back to def speeds and then did max mem. Then i lowered each 5 mhz and ran an artifact scan. It goes about 15 minutes (tested 3 times) each attempt and get's no artifacts but then my monitor just shuts off and i'm forced to shut down my computer manually. I also set my fan speed to 100%. I guess my card is overheating but then again VPU recover isn't coming up. my card comes with the best air cooler with it so I'm a little confused. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If you're going to overclock, get yourself a decent cooler, like a Thermaltake Giant III. A stock cooler isn't enough.

heh, i guess you haven't seen the cooler that comes on the HiS cards...

yes, i've seen it, and it's pretty nice looking. But can anyone here help..still no replies discussing the problem...if you know why my card is doing this or what I could do to fix it, please tell me. thanks alot

... your stock speed core/memory & your OC speed ...
how long did you let ATiTool to run (while finding max core & max mem?)
you shouldn't return your core speed back to stock; leave it OC & than run 'find max mem'

My stock speed on my card is 475/450. Also, you said don't lower the core when running find max mem test, but if you read the atricle by w1zzard on overclocking your card then he said to do that, which is why i did mine that way. Anyway i tried doing it your way and ran the find max clock (and let it run for about 2 hours finding the max clock until it seemed to not move anymore and stayed stable) and did that again for the memory and it seemed fine. Then did the artifact scan with both the core and the memory overclocked to 546/558 and still no artifacts or anything messing up. But as usual the test run for about 15 mins with no problems and monitor just shuts off. It goes in to the "idle state" with the orange light on and if i hit the power button it turns off completly. I also tried setting the clock and playing cs:s, and again after about 14-20 mins of playing the game (also no artifacts showing) it shut off. This is so frustrating because i could understand it doing that if there were artifacts or screen starting getting distorted, but as i said no artifacts or anything, just a screen turning off. Please help! :X

Declock down abit from what you have. Then try and play for a while. When the card gets too hot the graphics card causes the screen to lock so your system dies or crashes. I recommend 530/550. Since your memory if it is samsung is only supposed to reach 550.
If this works then up the core to 546.

hey i have the same prob the conclusion is that: when u oc ur mem or ure core nothing happens
but when u oc both the card didnt get enough power so just oc to one point like:
i have done it so:
original: 475/450
oc:530/560
after that its is stable u have to try

x800's are picky about power, it's annoying.
