Nvidia's Fermi chip was reported to be very power-hungry and extremely hot, pushing or even exceeding the PCI power limit of 300W:eek:

There's speculation that Nvidia's Fermi will be out of date on the day of launch because they've already delayed launch many times and that ATI will continue to hold the performance crown with the HD 5970 and the upcoming surprise HD 5980 & HD 5990

Update on limited launch of Fermi

Based on the technical specs and architecture of Fermi as well as the thermal envelope expect under 10000 Fermi video cards on the launch. The Nvidia is concentrating it resources on Fermi II - a optimized 28nm GPU. The Nvidia 3xx parts such as 310 are DirectX 10.1 vs Ati 4xxx video cards.

Fermi story is more intriguing and complex with unexpected twist as expected with a behemoth of a Fermi GPU: http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/02/17/nvidias-fermigtx480-broken-and-unfixable/

If even a little bit in that semi accurate article(and its semi accurate"shrugs") then Nvidia could be in some serious trouble I will admit, still we will have to wait and see.

but also all the GT3XX parts are not DX10.1 the GT330 is actually just a low power DX10 9800GT/G92, also if you go to Nvidia's US site they have changed the GT330's picture with the GT340's but it is correct on the UK site.
