When it comes to software, IMO it's best to have the latest unless there's a good particular reason not to. For example, I felt there were good reasons (hardware requirements, DRM), etc. not to upgrade to Vista, and am relieved 7 has remedied the major sources of Vista complaints, because on a personal level, I'm able to have an up to date OS rather than one that holds me back with limitations like DX9 (DX10 hacks aside), and on a larger scale: when 70% of the world's computers are running an eight-year-old OS, progress is going to be held back a bit. 7 is bringing "current" software to computers faster than Vista ever did. The number of XP users has been decreasing three times faster since 7 was released than it did when Vista was released (including beta periods). Ultimately, I hope to see 7 become the dominant platform in just a couple years so developers will completely shift their focus and take advantage of all possibilities now available.
