Well, I just got this motherboard and CPU not too long ago, I was hoping to get 2.6ghz with it, but that wasn't possible. I'm okay with the fact that I can only get about 2.45ghz or so. The problem is, with my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-K8ns Ultra 939) something on my AGP bus (I think) doesn't like the overclock. The board has an AGP and PCI lock, and I have the AGP set to 66. But everytime I overclock the CPU, the video card crashes and switches to CPU-relient video mode. Any guesses?

Well, I have thought of that, but the last time I checked my motherboard came with the newest version. I just checked on Gigabyte's site and there are two versions. I don't remember which one I have because I'm at school right now. Hopefully there is a new one out and I will be able to overclock. :D

Well I'm home now, and it's got the newest bios version. But I tried a lower overclock and it seems to be doing fine now. -220mhz rather than 225mhz. I knew for a fact that my ram couldn't handle over 440mhz, but I thought that overvolting the ram would allow it to run stable. I don't exactly see how unstable ram would cause my video card to fail and switch to cpu video mode. Anyway it's at 2.42ghz now instead of the stock 2.2ghz. Oh well, a small overclock is better than no overclock at all! :)

Argh, guess I was wrong. It just took longer for the video card to crash than normal. Okay keep taking guesses guys.

AGP and PCI are locked, or atleast it says so in the BIOS. I think that it may not be taking affect. But anyway I'll try messing the multiplier and see if that helps.

What i've heard with the mobo i have. Is that u get less problems if u set the agp clock to 67 instead of 66. It seemed to help make the overclock more stable on this MSI board. I don kno for your board but it's worth a shot. Although i can't confirm this cause i haven't started ocing....yet :D
It's brand new just got it soo i'll leave it at stock for a few days till i kno for sure it's stable at it's stock speeds..Then i'll try to get a nice oc :D

ok, in order to lock the agp clock you have to set it to 67mhz... you would think that 66mhz is locked but its not. I guess when it is at 66 the old Nforce has a little problem with keeping the speed right on but at 67 it's locked into stone. If you want the best overclock for your chip you here are my reccomended settings...

290fsbx9 (so drop your multiplier down a few)
1.5v (your chip should hit it at this voltage)
*presto* 26100mhz
...if your mem can't handle it drop the frequency to 166 or even 133 but don't fret since you are overclocking your FSB your mem will actually hit higher than these frequencies

Aha yeah, I was like wtf? How can my HTT handle 2.9ghz lol. Anway, 2.42ghz right now because I just wanted to see if the 67mhz agp bus worked. And of course it does. I did an awfully good job of corrupting my files too! Lol, thankfully Windows made a backup in an odd directory. (I could kiss Bill Gates for that.)

Well, I've tried multiple clock, volt, and multiplier setups, and this thing just doesn't want to go any further than 2.475ghz (225x11) CPU, 450mhz (225x2) RAM and 2.25ghz (225x5) HTT. I almost got 2.625ghz (250x10.5) CPU and 2ghz HTT (250x4) working. I tried your 290fsb suggestion along with the multipliers, but no cigar. Oh well, its about 2.5ghz, so I'd say its like 3900+ish.

Okay turns out my ram was unstable at 450mhz. So I've got this overclock right now. 2.575ghz (2.6 if you ask me) 1.9ghz HTT, and 370mhz ram. Overall it's faster, but it really bugs me having a slower HTT and ram than stock. So should I go back to stock? (2.2ghz 1.4vcore, 2ghz HTT, 400mhz ram)

By golly I've got it! 2.575ghz 1.6vcore (245x10.5), 400mhz ram, 2ghz HTT. I'm a very, very happy man.

Argh, Sandra says my HTT is at 1.6ghz not 2ghz. It's at 245 x 4 which gets 980mhz. Then another x2 for the full duplex, and I should be running 1.96ghz. But yet it says 804mhz x2 1.6ghz. So what the hell is going on? Is it really 1.6ghz or is it 2ghz? Is there any other software that can tell me my bus speeds? (By the way, Sandra reads my mobo as being a Socket 754 even though its a 939.)

I tried messing with the HTT too but for preformance in sandra 1x HTT or 5X HTT doesn't matter it doesn't increase the score of my mem nor cpu so i'll leave it at 1x HTT. I'm at 250x10 and a 200 mhz lock on my ram wich is not totally locked cause it's running 208....It's stable for now but i'll test some more....

See, my problem is, my ram won't lock AT ALL, if I set it at 200mhz, and set the FSB to say 240mhz, my ram wants to go to 240mhz. So I have to set my ram to 166mhz and try to get an overclock that will get my ram close to back up to 200mhz. Right now, my ram isn't actually at 400mhz, its at 386mhz (193x2) and I just rounded up. Any way to fix this?

Ok, got it sorted out. The things to 'lock' your ram is actually the divider. But it's not a divider like on p4 motherboards. Like at 10x multiplier and 166 'lock' on the ram the ram divider becomes 12. So if i put my fsb to 250 i get 250x10=2500:12=208 for the ram...It's works like that u see
With 10.5 multiplier and 166 'lock' the ram divider becomes 13 and 11 multiplier and 166 'lock' gives a 14 ram divider. That's what i noticed on my K8N neo 2 platinum. I've got a nice oc now i'll post some bench scores later :D

Yeah I had already noticed this myself, I was just wondering if there was a way to set the multiplier manually to get it right at 200mhz.

the 10.5 mulitplier with 166 'lock' get's you very close to the 200 just a little over. It's like 202 then.

Actually it runs at 196, but it's close enough for me. 8mhz (after being multiplied) isn't a matter of life or death, especialy when your cpu benches faster than an Opteron 152! :D :D :D

What kind of benchmark scores are you getting in Sandra and/or Prime95?
