If its happening in other things as well i would suggest running cpu-z and seeing what speed the CPU is running at when running the video etc. CPU usage shouldnt really be enough to require the cpu to step up its speed though.

I have read the thread but the only 2 other suggestions i have is find the latest audio drivers for your system and update it as that can cause problems, also to download process explorer and look what if anything is using more CPU time than it should be. If you can see the DPC which is near the top hitting something like 10/15% often then its generally a driver/hardware issue. All you can do in that case is do what you have done and update firmware and drivers. It could be the ATI card you have has a firmware update available, i know some of the 4800 series cards had issues at one point.

As its not happening in XP it does suggest more of a driver issue though.

I;ve install latest audio driver, there is no official ati firmware upd, and there r no back ground processes ....i dont know what to do any more:banghead:

Perhaps it is that damn power?? Unfortunately I don't have from whom to borrow 800w power so that i could test it.
On Friday my friend will bring me his 5850...so i will see how the system will respond.

The thing is DX10/10.1 load a card much more than DX9, so you can't just assume that it is a driver problem.
From the look of it, his PSU can very likely be a problem.

There are many of us that runs 4800 series cards under Win7 with no problems, and the OP have tried multiple drivers already.
Most of the problems are with the earlier 4870s, and the 4890s are much better.

To force a specific DirectX version, go to your settings.ini in My Documents\BFBC2. Look for “DxVersion=Auto” and change it to the setting you prefer based on the list below.

* DxVersion=9

I just tried this one, but i get the same old shuttering :(

Your problem in BF:BC2 is just too high frame rates, try other games instead.

Edit: Is it really shuttering or is it "screen tearing" that is normal for broken vsync?
From your earlier post it it is just broken vsync and that is simple, but shuttering is an entirely different thing.

When a game is "shuttering" the screen actually looks normal but it just "lags" or "skipping" even at high FPS.
Screen tearing is when the picture looks funny, like over-lapping flash when firing a machine gun.

Try uninstalling the drivers first.
Then use driver sweeper:
http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Make sure you properly uninstall the drivers first.
After that use driver sweeper (go to safe mode and run it)
Then grab the 10.2 hotfix just to make sure it is not a driver conflict.
Sometime it is because the drivers are not properly cleaned.

Software that reads ATI temperature sensors including the Catalyst Control Center can lead to choppy frame rates. Nvidia GPUs don't have this problem. If you have any monitoring software running try turning it off and see if that makes a difference.

Are you using A/V software? Are you using Norton?
If you are try disabling it.

That DPC checker looks much better than the one in process explorer.

My PSU is a odin gt 550watt and displays the power usage of each rail, rail 1 + 2 deal with CPU, 2,3,4 are the Graphics, 4 does the things like HD. My system is a 4870 at 770mhz GPU and 1000mhz mem, Phenom tricore at 3ghz, this was with crysis one run benchmark, all settings gight, shader on medium. Im using windows 7 64bit. You PSU looks like it has 2 rails, might be worth seeing if you can tell which is which in terms of connections. The GPU with some of the CPU did only take 17amp max though.

The max of my 12v rails (1,2,3,4) are 18amps but upto 480watt if i remember.

Run 1 dx9 - max watt 272
Rail 1 - 3.2amp
Rail2 - 6.8amp
Rail 3 - 4.7 amp
Rail 4 - 5 amp

Rail 5 - 5.6amp (5v)
Rail 6 - 4.9amp (3v)

Run 2 dx10 - max watt 265
Rail 1 - 4.9amp
Rail2 - 6.5amp
Rail 3 - 4.6 amp
Rail 4 - 4.4 amp

Rail 5 - 5.4 amp (5v)
Rail 6 - 5 amp (3v)

I think that mine have two rails 12V1 and 12v2 according to this http://img85.imageshack.us/i/171az.jpg/ ??

also i read on http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-4890-review-test/5

On an average system we feel that a single Radeon 4890 series requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit at minimum if you use it in a high-end system, and I feel that's a little on the safe side. Also recommended is a total of 32 AMPs on the +12 volt rails for stable power distribution (in a single card configuration).

i was hoping the manual would say whats connected to what.

I have a HIS, for the 4890 it recommends 600watt and two 75watt pcie connectors. Thats 6.25amp per connection, the PCIE slot i think can take a max of 75watt, so another 6.25.

Thats 18.75 amp.

My system never really touches 300watt.

But again it could be power but i doubt it would be using anywhere near that power for video, and XP wouldnt use that much less if anything at all, not enough to tip it over the edge.

Could be a faulty PSU but again i doubt xp/windows 7 would make a difference.

Run at 800mhz GPU with 3d mark 06. 278Watt peak.
Rail 1 -4.4amp
Rail 2 - 7.6
Rail 3 - 4.9
Rail 4- 5.2

One other suggestion i have is to goto the bios and select the performance settings on the first screen normally.

I went on ASUS power supply calculator
http://support.asus.com/PowerSupplyCalculator/PSCalculator.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
result is : "Your Recommended Minimum Power Supply is 600w"

:) your graphics card uses a little more power than mine, the cpu will use abit more yet Asus says you require twice the ammount of power that my system uses.

The problem is you cannot say, cheaper PSU's will give the 5v and 3v lots of watts where its not needed.

Mines only 550w but supplys more 12v power where its needed.

Still when just watching video you will be using about 150watt. No where near the 600watt. If it was purly games then fair enough, still doesnt explain why XP is fine.
