hello guys ... i'm building my new PC nowdays , it's I7 930 and other stuff , got my 5870 yasterday and got really excited about just trying it out on this PC <--- " spec in profile" so i pluged it and use my only 6-pins from my PSU and used 1 of the 2 6-4pins converter that came with the card in the other slot < but my PC won't boot ...

no normal motherboard beep , no keyboard lights flashing , and really weird sound from the HD , like it trying to read somthing but having Bad clusters times , that scared the shit out of me coz i live way overseas and bought the card from amazon.com and in case the card is dead i'm really fucked coz it would cost me alot just for resending ...

my other parts won't come before 2 weeks including corsair PSU to test it the rightway , but what you think guys .. if the motherboard did not boot normaly does that mean the card is dead ?

thanks in advance

wasn't there a second ago, or I need sleep.

It lists as having two rails, and the 12V is split and limited to 18A each. Not enough if you are only using one rail. You will have to use both and that still is close to the limit, and for a PSU like that it is probably more like 14A max at loading temps.

Bet it's the PSU. Coolmax PSUs are very overrated. I have a 6 year old Lite-On (fairly good quality) 350w PSU from an old Dell that is rated as much as that "600w" Coolmax. Not to mention that their PSUs like to blow and take out other things with them half the time. I would definitely wait for the Corsair to arrive, so you don't potentially kill anything.

You got a friend with a decent PC that you could test the card in?

How did you buy the card? Most vendors advertise the card to require 600W PS at best. I'm sure they'd honor a warranty if you explained that yours was unsufficient. Who manufactured the card?

Here's what I'd do, in a week send an email to Amazon saying the card won't power up at all. They'll normally cover shipping back to them if it's their fault, and in this case it *would be*. Then wait another week till your Corsair PSU arrives and test it, if it works scrap the RMA. If it doesn't then you're all set to send the thing back the same day.

Wow. I totally skipped over the amazon part. My bad.

Did you smell burning silicon at any point?

I once used an underpowered PSU to attempt to power my card (my old Geforce 9800gtx). It didn't damage the card at all. The system booted, but my card wouldn't respond. It sounds similar to your situation. I recommend buying a new PSU before spending money on sending the card back to Amazon. You can get a decent 700-800 watts for just over $120.00 these days. It seems like you'll need a better PSU for your new build anyways.

I hope your hardware is fine. Good luck, buddy. It'll all be worth it when your machine is done.
