lol well one can't deny that UT is must faster paced game. Maps are smaller, making confrontations sporadic and occuring much more often. I own CoD 4, MW2, and UT3. and CoD def has a MUCH larger community than UT3. I don't find it far-fetched that due to the massive FPS community being fans of CoD and BF, when UT style game-play comes around and its much fast paced most will revert to their CoD/BF gameplay and forget UT3 like has been done. Just my hypothesis XD

CoD has a MUCH larger community due to the first CoD release, the expansion pack AND all the mods & maps that made its way into the game eventually - And also because it had huge maps & vehicles & if you look at the BF series games - thats why they also had huge success. yes it was a little slower paced - but when was the last time you joined a server that was packed out with 64players?? thats an insane amount of players for any map - fighting might not be sporadic - but when you get into a gun fight with other enemys its pretty intense - then a jeep comes out of nowhere & plows through 5 of you that were hiding behind a wooden fense....

& IMHO CoD started losing it after CoD2 - the game just wasnt the same again & CoD1 was the game that Made & sent IW to the top & sadly games wont be made like that again. because IW & now even EA/DICE either dont or wont provide us with SDK tools. CoD1 was just a one off lucky strike - MW1 was awesome but lack of vehicles - smaller maps (I dislike small maps) but it was great because we had SDK tools so we could port & mod maps from almost every game on the planet.

Ive played on Medal Of Honour 1 maps in CoD1 & MW1 Ive even played on lord of the rings maps in CoD1, ive even played on quake maps that have been ported into the game!!

its all about having big maps, jeeps & mod tools. 8Vs8 on MW2 just bores me to death.

I don't know. The original Unreal really started all this for me and I played UT a lot as well. I tried the UT3 demo a couple times but it just didn't grab me. I want to say we are tired of the same old twitchy frag fests with better graphics but then again I can't really think of any other shooters I love right now that are revolutionary in any way outside of the destructible environment in BC2.

BC2 is a flavor of the month. That game will die out just as fast as it started making waves.
I looked at it and to me, it's the same ole same ole...Just like the COD phase.
I almost bought it until I spent like a few hours reading up on it, looking at videos and asking around.
Then I found, there is nothing ground breaking about it. it's just new.

The game just isn't that good. My brother went and brought the trilo pack of UT and I didn't know UT3=UT2k4 with less fun. I remember they had to make a patch because the AI in UT3 saw the player as a bigger threat than an AI controlled vehicle. If it were you and a tank coming together, believe you got shoot down first.

Because the game has been DEAD for years, just like Call of Duty when it first came out back in November of 2003. All the other series of COD games continuing from COD2 are all HORRIBLE gameplay. Graphics is what these companies are looking at unfortunately these days not GAMEPLAY.

I can tell you why. At first, there was UT99. It had many new interesting modes and addicitive gameplay. Then it came UT2003 and UT2004. Both upgrading everything UT99 offered at first.
And then UT3 came. And they chopped half of the fun part off. Sure you have Warfare like mode, but where is Assault mode? Domination mode? Ball match? All 3 just gone. Evaporated. Transcended into another dimension... Why have they done that, i have no clue. But these 3 modes were the most innovative and fun to play. The tension of holding or attacking in Assault modes, massive maps, the tension of holding domination points or just rushing after the ball.
Only fun mode in UT3 was "Greed". With health regeneration mutator. And Rocket Arena mutator.
This is the only fun thing really. Otherwise, UT2004 is just better and offers more. If there is a Greed mode for UT2004, let me know. Coz that will make the game nearly perfect.
This. They got rid of everything that made UT2k4 good which basically makes UT3 bad.

I bought UT3 and played it for like a week; never touched it since then. Around the time of its release it barely had any decent populated servers, and the server browser sucked. I didn't like the maps either...too dark and claustrophobic.

I still play UT2004, mostly in offline mode with bots on the second highest difficulty setting; it's one of my favorite games of all time and a great stress-reliever...start it up, pick up the flak cannon in Deck17 and start shooting bots in the face...feel better already.

Same for me. UT3 is pretty sharp, but i still find UT2004 superior.

bullets dont go through walls. lol.

in anycase, its a decent game... although, nothing really new in terms of battling, (sure their are different game modes and vehicles, but still the spine of it still feels like Quake, Quake2, HalLife etc.)

UT3 needs connection to Games for Windows Live. In many countries this service just don't work... like in Poland. I bought UT3 and GOW and I was not able to play multiplayer because fu$$$n Microsoft just forgot about 40 milion people country like Poland. I'm playing UT 99. Period!
PS. Xbox Live doesn't work too.

UT3 was just a worse version with much less options than especially UT2004. I mean... that game just had everything imaginable except perhaps a Battle Royale mode :) UT99 sure, that too, but UT2004 just basically completed the formula already. Everything UT3 tried to do differently, wasn't quite as pleasing.

I remember playing it. And not liking it, I think I still have the PS3 disc somewhere.

Frankly the completely molested-due-to-controller-limitations Unreal Tournament on PS2 had more flavor and fun in it I recall.

Did not realize this myself, I was just happy to see a thread about UT no matter what release.

I will add my part to this old thread......

UT99 and the GOTYE editions were very fluid and well balanced and had grate support from the community. UT3 and UT2K3/2K4 were not as fluid and did not see the support from the communities that UT99 had, which killed them quite fast.

On a side note, you can get the latest version of UT for free...Unreal Tournament (epicgames.com)

Now on to UT99 GOTYE (I forgot I still have it).........

Because like all UTs, even if you have pro-level movement, your PoV still looks like a stop motion video instead of being a fluid, wonderful flow across the geometry, like in Quakes (or classic Doom for that matter). In short, mostly movement mechanics; you just simply can't build up speed and keep at it in a consistent manner. And making an absolutely self-tailored config is one or two order of magnitudes shallower.

But if you HAVE TO play UT, there's UT99, which is just an overall better game imo. More responsive, less cluttered and still having cool gameplay modes.

BTW

Nice necro, guys, glad I'm a part of it. :peace:
