Dirt 2 on highest runs fine most of the time, but in heavily populated areas, slugs down to a snails pace.

Just Cause 2 I play with all AA settings of and it's still seems sluggish

NFS: Shift is damn near unplayable on even the lowest settings

There are a few that run perfectly, but most feel sluggish and not what I expected from my machine.

I reckon I'll just save up for another 5770 then

The Furmark score still worries me tbh

Remember that not all games scale to use two gpu's. Some games will not take advantage of it and you will be near square one with those titles.

Hey hey, it's not THAT bad.

Foreign media is blowing this way out of proportion.

Anyway, so Furmark, why the low score?

You should try game benchmarks. They are much more relevant.

Good point. I ran the Just Cause benchmark and got a solid 72fps average(game still seemed sluggish, but maybe my rig isn't to blame for that), so I guess I should either relax or overclock the hell out of my setup.

Anyone here have a handy guide for overclocking an i7 860? :D

Shevanel - I'll try 1.6.5 like in the bench results thread. I used 1.8 for my bench. Will it make that big a difference?

diff version of FM produced diff results but not in a drastic way.

look around the overclocking thread on tpu, oc'n that 860 should prove ez. it'll make a diff but educate yourself on the subject before going nuts with it.

See, there's the concern again. 2.9k on 1.8 seems too low. Maybe Furmark is just full of it

I know I'm expecting a lot from the card, but I think it's fair to expect the same results as the other 5770 posted on here.

On a bright note though, played around with MSI Afterburner last night, bumped the gpu clock up to 970 and mem clock to 1350.

Furmark 1.6.5 gives me a score of 4819 now and Heaven gives me a nice round 860.

I'm semi happy now.

Thanks for all the help guys

Edit: I'd like to push the 5770 a little more, but it's unstable with just a nudge.
I enabled the unofficial overclock in Afterburner, but I can't change the voltage.

Could it be because I'm running Catalyst 10.3?

You can't change the voltage likely because you have a non-reference 5770.
BTW, don't push the memory too far, it can actually decrease performance.

I see.

I've seen many guys pushing 1400 on their memory clock, so I was trying for that, no luck though.

Performance has definitely not decreased, that's for sure, but I'll take it down a notch and see if I get even better results

It really depends what memory you have on your card ;)
The 5000 series have ECC running on the memory, so even if you overclock the memory too high you don't see any "problems", it just runs like crap.
You get much better results overclocking the GPU than the memory anyways.

Curious about what resolution your running at.
If you run at high res IE 1600x900 or higher, you can ease up on using AA.
Only use AA if you see jaggies in your straight lines and shadows.
If you don't see jagged edges then AA is doing nothing for you except hurting your performance.
I run at 1920x1080 and I barely need AA for games anymore.
I might use it at like 2x every now and then but 16X AA is pointless to me now.

Also if you want more performance without loosing image quality see what you won't mind loosing.
Me, I never use vertical sync because it is a huge FPS hit and I'd rather have a pretty game with rare tearing. It happens so fast I virtually never notice it anyway and even when I do, it's so not a bit deal. Good luck.

RJC - The mobo is fine, I'm running an Asus 55i Sabertooth.

The PSU might be a little too weak for a second 5770, it's a coolermaster 460w. I'll grab a 2nd 5770 anyway as they are quite cheap. If the PSU doesn't like it, then I'll upgrade that at a later stage.

D007 - 90% of my games I play at 1280x1024 as it's quite an old monitor I'm using. I always turn down AA settings to x2 and v-sync of where I can.

That being said, I bumped up the core clock a little more yesterday and I'm getting some better results.

Tried out Dragon Age; 1440x900, full AA, V-Sync on and everything on their highest respective settings.

Ran like a dream, not a single hiccup. Maybe DA has great coding or maybe my card just needed some "burn in" time. I dunno, but I'm getting happier with it's performance

your card is fine. I have almost the same system and I get the same scores in furmark 1.8 on my xfx 5770 using the settings in your screenshot.

The scores in 1.8 are a lot lower than the ones in 1.7. I'm willing to bet the low 4k scores you are seeing are reported from benchmarks scores using 1.7. Your card is fine.
