Alright guys, time to get this post flying again so let me tell you what happened:p. I bought the MX518 from my local computer store for a whopping $76 after tax (ridiculous I know). Anyways so I get it home and I was loving the feel and the button placement untill I ran into an issue. These programmable buttons will not keep their specific settings and it's giving me nothing but grief and I'm getting really sick of it. I figured after paying top dollar for a 3 year old mouse at my local computer shop they would give me something that will actually work well but I guess that's not the case. So, come monday morning I'm going to that store and giving them a peice of my mind and demanding my money back. From now on I'm finished shopping local and am only buying online, so guys can you please tell me if I may experience the same issues with another logitech mouse with these programmable buttons, or if the settings on the mouse would not stay in place because of the age of the mouse and the fact that I'm using Win 7 Ultimate. So, again I am on the hunt so suggestions and maybe some links to the egg would be greatly appreciated:).

Logitech have been behaving very well for me and my friends, they all work flawlessly on Windows 7. Well, you can take a look around and tell us what you like, we will give our opinions on what we think of the mice.

Alright thanks for the heads up, im hoping the only issue was the mouse may be too old and win 7 is having trouble with it. I've been looking at the G500 on newegg..what do you think?:toast:

You paid WAY too much for the 518. I loved it before I got into the Sentinel; mine works flawlessly after picking it up for 20 bucks about 2 years ago. You can get it online brand new for half the price you paid.

If you get your money back, I still say go with the Sentinel. It has the same general "feel" of the 518 with a ton of extra toys and options.

I realized I was overpaying for the mouse even before I bought it since I saw it on newegg for $45. I wanted to try and help out a local business though since I live in a small town, and I figured at least since I would be paying top dollar I would get a mouse that works well. Unfortunately not. Anyways I took a look at the sentinel a few weeks back and I really liked it as well but I can't seem to find it on newegg. Do you know anywhere I could get it online?

Can I suggest buying from directcanada? they usually have the lowest prices, even compared to newegg

As I suggested and some others too, the Gigabyte M8000X ends up less than 72$ after tax and shipping from DC or 82$ from NCIX but they have a special where you get a nice mouse pad free

or the M8000 ~58$ after everything... from DC again

Low prices are nice but how about shipping times and quality? Anything nice about directCanada that you've heard?

It's not that I don't love the feel of the mouse, trust me I do. I just can't handle all these software malfunctions I'm getting. Just out of curiosity what operating system are you running, windows 7 by any chance?

shipping quality is nice when I bought from them, better than newegg, newegg's only real flaw is that lol

quality? idk what you mean but they won't ship you the wrong product and for DOA products, DirectCanada and newegg are the same, for the simple fact that it is the MANUFACTURER's quality control that matters

For RMA, newegg.ca's RMA's are easy, not tedious, BUT LONG. they are based in US, and you have to ship it to them... really sucks waiting for 3-4weeks for the RMA process, DirectCanada's is faster, but not so easy. I think it is only 14days for directcanada?

Bottom line is directcanada, for Canadians, is a better way to shop for sure. It isn't newegg's fault really, but not having a warehouse in Canada really hurts newegg for sells here

i personally would go with NCIX over directcanada, since the prices there seem to be cheaper. however, if you have a pccyber or canadacomputers anywhere close to you, those two are the best places to shop for computer parts in canada.

NCIX is 80% times more expensive..............

pccyber and canadacomputers is usually more expensive too...

Have you ever seen the prices? or bought from all of theses stores? I have...

What I don't like about NCIX is that they are the most known, so people assume it is the cheapest and best, but it isn't, especially if you are build a whole computer, shipping kills you, while shipping at Directcanada is free for orders 300$ o more, and they significantly lower when you buy many items

i have no software issues at all i use vista 64bit and i DONT use the included software using microsofts default mouse driver and all buttons function 100% and so does on the fly DPI adjustments up to 1600-1800 ive no need for there drivers since everything works without them 100%

i've bought parts from all three. a quick look through directcanada.com yielded higher prices for parts that i've bought elsewhere. the free shipping over $300 is very good, however, since the OP will be buying one item that won't be anywhere near $300, this is mostly moot.

pccyber and canadacomputers will usually have slightly higher prices, being that they are brick+mortar stores. once you've factored shipping into account on the e-tailers, the prices end up being roughly the same. that and the fact that having a physical store to deal with makes everything much easier.

EDIT: canadacomputers currently have the old razer deathadder (1800DPI) for $40. directcanada... doesn't even carry razer products. how odd.

I am sorry, but EVERY time, NCIX's price seem to be higher for what I buy... much higher...

I've only looked for around 80 parts, but I make an assumption that when EVERY TIME, NCIX is more expensive, and not by just a little, NCIX is generally more expensive, and the shipping is equal or more expensive at NCIX

pccyber and canadacomputers charge full tax, AND they are more expensive, makes them WAY more expensive... (5% GST tax online vs 13% tax B&M)

See if you can find a Logitech MX400, no bells and whistles like lights or insane dpi (3-4k lol), but its a great hand fit, has good (I think it was 800-1000) dpi, and is dirt cheap. Only downside is the mouse 3 (middle button) sucks majorly, though I combat that by assigning one of my side buttons to mouse 3.

PS: I got mine for $15! (Canada Computers)

in this situation, canadacomputers gets my business, despite having to pay a little bit more. not to mention, having a friend who works there equals employee discounts.

I got my G15 and my G5 from CanComp for decent prices. Sure online may be cheaper, but I prefer not to wait 5,6,7 days or more for my parts. Plus i know a few ppl at my CanComp and they always let me know about open box specials and other good deals in the store. Another good online site is http://www.memoryexpress.com/ Quick service and decent pricing.

Benchmark Scores i'm working on that
Well, I used to game at about 2000 dpi with my friend's Mamba on his laptop, so I would think a higher dpi wouldnt hurt.

perhaps it won't hurt, however.. can you truly say that it helps?? I play fps games almost religiously and have for years.. and i got by just fine on an mx 518 gg.. it's one of my favorite mice. I had a couple g5's that were ok, but my razer lachesis is the first mouse where it had an ultra high(4000dpi) dpi rating. and to be honest.. i see no difference.

When you're choosing a mouse if your at this stage in your gaming where you still have to ask which mouse is best for me, you probably aren't really in need of such sensitive and expansive settings in a mouse, which really removes pretty much all razer mice from the game. A mid range mouse like the deathadder would probably be your best bet if you r looking to move into more powerful mice and know a little about how they set up in the first place. If you have no idea what most of what i've said actually means, then perhaps you would be best off with the 518. Believe me, it's a stellar mouse and served me for a long time. I actually still have it after almost 5 years. I went through 4 g5's and 1 g9 before ditching them altogether for the far more powerful razer setups.

I ALWAYS shop around... I have about 10 online stores I look at... for EVERY item... every retailer sometimes have a much lower price somewhere...

If you don't care much about the wait, online is almost always cheaper... here in canada, ontario or quebec especially, tax is a killer...

and from my experience, directcanada is the cheapest, so I'm just suggestion that when you do your initial search, do it at directcanada, then shop around if you wish, but directcanada is usually the best price or not far from it
