i7 Cooling opinions?

If I had an i7, I'd definitely go with a Cooler Master Hyper 212+.

It's cheap and it does its job extremely well

Dude, he already has the Xig DK, which is much better than that...

and TBH, I wouldn't go with the Hyper 212+ for an x58 i7... I would for the lga 1156 platform though

Well, you gotta admit for the price of the CM Hyper 212+, it's a great solution if you're on a budget like me.

+1 to the Mugen2 with 2 Gentle Typhoons in Push/Pull. I love mine. But if you already have a DK, save some cash and stick with it, it is supposed to be a pretty nice air-cooler.

When you buy an X58, your budget usually is flexible enough to spend an extra 10$ on your CPU cooler

ive never used one but most of the reviews ive read show that it dosent handle well with overclocks and the extra heat... on stock its great though

I haven't heard it is not good with overclocks, but the reviews I have seen say the V10 is a great air cooler, but there are others that perform just as well or better and cost 1/2 as much.

Well it handles heat pretty well man. Those reviewers can goto hell lmao :nutkick:

At 4GHz i barely jump 65c.

But on prime 95 its goes up to max 75c. But my processor is almost sleeping most of the time lmao. So the V10 does the job for me

I use a Noctua D14 on my 920. Most of the suggestions you are receiving are probably excellent coolers, but I wouldn't change the Noctua.

price is no reason to sacrifice cooling with these chips, especially if you want to OC.

Here is my recommendation based on experience for these chips.

Custom Water/Noc NH-D14/CoolIT Eco/VenemousX/Corsair H50/Mega/TRUE all with push/pull configs and fans with high static pressure.

I used a Dark Knight and now a Megahalem on my i7, both do extremely well. For the summer I am looking to invest in a couple decent fans for push pull on the Mega.

Yep i did say its hard to mount it. Its gonna be a pain in the ass removing it and fixing it again. Plus you need a big case too. But the cooling is awesome.

Yeah, bigger heat sink = better cooling.

It looks like it would get in the way of your RAM. That could be a problem if you have RAM with tall heat spreaders...

Yes, all of the memory with tall heatsinks could prove problematic with the larger coolers. I use OCZ Gold 1600 with the Noctua D-14 without issues and most of the tests I've seen suggest that faster latencies don't play that big a part once you get past a certain point, so it seems like a good compromise to me. However, if you already own memory, it's a good idea to confirm that it will fit before buying any of the new generation of tower coolers.
