You could do better building your own for sure. Much of that is old tech, and the video card is very weak. I wouldn't pay more than $500 for that, and that may be stretching it.

Edit: Just noticed the Cosmos case. OK, maybe $600, but not a penny more.

So for $700, I could build a computer more powerful than that? I already have a Radeon HD 5770, which I like pretty well. Could you recommend me some parts? I'm looking for something that is going to be able to handle multitrack recording and VST usage with relative ease.

Sure, just a minute...do you need the peripherals, like keyboard, speakers etc or are you good with what you have?

No. I have a keyboard and mouse ready to go. And I'm fine with my logitech speakers.
I also have a relatively decent case. It's Thermaltake Mid-Tower.
And I have a 550 PSU, not sure if that's enough for an upgrade though.

If you keep your case, I'd switch processors, and get the new Phenom II x6 1055T instead of the 955. Still brings you in around $700.

+1 for paulieg's suggestions. The new rig would be more future-proof and more energy efficient than the 65nm Q6600.

Cool, sounds good. Is there alot of applications that can utilize 6 cores versus 3-4 cores? I wouldn't want to buy something and have cores wasted. Although I'm not quite sure how that would work.

Okay those are the parts that I have, considering that I already have a case and other peripherals ready at home. I would still need an OS.. I'm running Vista right now and I definitely liked XP better. Any suggestions on that? I may want 64bit to utilize more RAM in the future.

I don't know much about audio editing, so I'm not sure how many cores it will make use of. In any event, the extra cores will allow for more multitasking without system slow down. When you are only talking about a $50 difference b/t the two processors, I think it's worth it.

whats the difference between the GB

GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s US...

GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI SATA 6G...

:confused::confused::confused::confused: Which one should i get with the 6x 1090t?

also want to do the really good sapphire card in the build list...

Personal preference, I would take the UD3 just for the onboard video to use as backup purposes not because it is a little cheaper. Really that's the only difference I see. EDIT: Not to mention on the 890FX, it has the few extra PCI-e lanes utilized into a 3rd PCI-e x16 slot. But for use with a 1090T? The 890GX would still be my choice.

3x1gb would be impractical right?

Just saw that, these were the ones I meant to link but didn't think to check to see if sold out.
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 ...

Here's the next best ones I could see that are in stock
CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3...

Not exactly sure when it came out, but it's not very old at all. I bought it new a few months ago to power my GPU.

I looked up some specs, from the claimed/rated amps, it would work ok.

Just playing the devil's advocate here, but how much more powerful is this current setup compared to the Q6600? I cannot see the benefits of futureproofing this computer, since that once Bulldozer comes into town, chances are they are going to have a socket change, rendering the "upgradibility" useless. The only advantage of the current build over that ageing build is the 6 cores, which is not that much of an upgrade unless multithreaded apps are used.

I'm putting together a pc for HD video editing with Adobe Premier, and I'm looking at this board because it can also unlock locked cores on certain amd phenom II's.

Asus Crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX (Socket AM3)

It has higher memory oc (2000),
a.c.c. (unlocks cores),
e-sata and
usb 3.0
the gigabyte doesn't have some of these but they are crucial (to me) for a video editing PC (except the unlocky corey thingy) but I'm not sure what the Asus will do to your budget even though there's a good chance it can turn a
AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 555 3.20GHz Black Edition (Socket AM3)
into a quad core. It's personal choice, but I'm taking the gamble!
Also a college tutor told me to not use home or ultimate for audio/video editing they recommended win7 pro x64
Harm Millaard (Adobe Premiere and general audio/video editing god!) also recommended win7 pro x64
see post 42 here:

Also... from what I've seen the 640gb 6gb/s 64mb cache Western Digital Caviar Black's are only a few more dollars than the 3gb/s 32mb cache.. They might be worth considering....

Just a quick suggestion on the psu, if you have the budget for one that costs that much, why not get one that's 80plus bronze or silver certified?

Also, my friend has a setup that's very close to what you're getting, except add in an SSD and trade for a PII x4 965, and he's running it with this:
RAIDMAX RX-500AF 500W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRON...

Yea, rosewill, I know. But, goes to show that even a crappy power supply that's "only" 500W will power your system.
