third sata drive not bootable ?

Have Asus M4A79 deluxe board with the latest bios installed. 2 WD 500Gb sata drives with XP Pro, I can boot from either one , no problem. They are connected to the 1st and 2nd sata connectors. DVD drive connected to 3rd sata port. Just installed a 3rd WD 500Gb drive on the 4th sata port. Drives are setup in IDE mode as opposed to RAID. Formatted new drive NTFS basic drive. Was going to install Win 7 Ult 64 bit on the new drive and it's telling me the drive is not bootable . What am I missing here ?

Is this happening on this screen here?:

You need to have it boot from the DVD or USB stick or whatever medium you are using.

Exactly. On the where do you want to install Windows screen, it has the list of all 3 drives, but when I choose the new drive is when it says it cannot install because the drive is not a bootable drive. If I select one of the other drives with XP installed it doesn't give that message.

Did you try "Drive Options" and then formatting that drive?

Went to disk management and formatted. Maybe I should try again ? It shows up as disk 2 new volume K:, healthy, active.

Whenever you format a drive via Disk Management and intend to install an OS to it that drive must be made active.

Formatted drive second time, exactly the way I did the first time and had no problem installing Win 7.
