HD3870X2 & SPC Conviction MEGA CRASH

Hi !! , first time since i bought my HD380X2 ( 2 years ago ) i have problems with games,
I Installed SP Conviction with no problems , i started the game , played like 30 mins and then CRASH , it freezes , this happen randomly ,
i updated to the last ati drivers , did a fresh install of Windows 7 64 Bits , and the same always ...

My Specs :
Core2 Quad @ 2.66 Q9450 with Zalman CNPS9700
5 GB RAM
3 TR of HDD
HD3870x2
650W Power Supply Cooler master

Any thoughts ? Thanks

Another thing , how do i enable ati overdrive ?

Check the temps on the x2. Maybe it needs a fresh helping of thermal paste.

To enable overdrive, click the little lock icon on that page.

Idle is 45ºC , and Playing Metro 2033 , 65 maximum

this problem only happens with Splinter Cell , no COD Modern Warfare2 , Resident Evil 5 , , etc

also i noticed that , in GPU Z , the Fan SPEED is always at 40 % , even playing games ...

i remember reading that the 3xxx series is not officially supported.

BUT the game runs on my friends 3870 so try disableing one core. and run it single

Click the key image:

Click OK:

ATI HD 3000 NOT supported at time of release.

Your card wasn't officially supported at release. That may be the problem.

Do you have a 6-pin and 8-pin connected to the card, or two 6-pins? I remember when these cards were out that ATi locked out Overdrive unless you had an 8-pin hooked up, so I made one myself.

This is the only drivers for SC Conviction on the HD3000 series. Remember to install the Application Profiles.

There's also a patch for the game (Patch 1.02)

I also heard that some new Retail Boxed versions now have a sticker on stating compatibility issues with the HD3000 series.

I have 2 6 Pin conector to the video card , and the 8 pin to the mobo ( Asus Striker II NSE )

I still think if u disable one core and use ur x2 as a basic 3870 it might work.

There is a difference between GPU 8-pin and ATX 8-pin connectors. Overdrive is disabled because your PSU doesn't have an 8-pin PCI-E power connector like this one:

8-pin PCI-E and 8-pin ATX are different cables. It sounds like your PSU does not have an 8-pin PCI-E cable, therefore you will not be able to use Overdrive.

Yep, no PCI-E 8-Pin wires. You'll have to live without Overdrive. Actually, if I can find it (which probably will take a little while) I made a molex to 2-pin adapter that would solve your problems. Sleeved in UV Orange too.

Dont worry. Its a bug in the game. Happens to me as well at times. And the performance is horrible :/
