I've been poking around for a cheap socket 478 motherboard to test a few processors I have laying around. I'm hoping to pick up a fancy server/workstation board, but I'm having a hard time finding one that will let me play with multipliers/FSB.

I'd like something that has a little of everything. IDE/SATA/SCSI, PCI-e, non-ECC required (support would be nice), onboard RAID, etc.

I've been an AMD guy the last 10 years, so this world of old Intel is a strange and unfamiliar one. Anyone have any suggestions? Good chipsets to look out for?

(I suppose I should be putting an entry in to the WTB thread too.)

Edit: There's a nice Intel Entry Server Board on eBay, but no FSB control. At that price, it's almost worth it, but "almost" isn't quite enough..

The ASUS P4GD1 has PCI-E. It's quite expensive.

i think the SKT 775 might be the cheaper and faster option.

For that P4 Equipment, the Intel 865PE and 875P Chipsets will be your best bet

Look at

Abit
Asus
DFI
Gigabyte
MSI

for Boards, Personal Pref for P4 would be Abit or DFI

I have an old gigabyte board with an nforce3 chip-set lying around. Only problem is it doesn't work to my knowledge. You could also try some old ibm think centers or netvista. I heard there are plenty of those computers around. Not sure if netvista supports raid though.

NF3 was only AMD compatible, meaning Socket 754/939. Socket 478 is Pentium 4
