What games do you play? I doubt your graphics card can handle any modern game. I doubt your cpu is the bottleneck.

Your specs are rather dated unfortunatly, newer games are a no go with what you've got!

I suggest getting yourself a console for games and just use your pc for internet, email etc!

I would'nt say its worth upgrading at all, better off starting from scratch if you want a gaming pc!

;)

would linux run on this type of comp?

linux will run on any x86 or x64 comp (although if you have an x64 disto it wont run on x86)

I suggest a Pentium 4. If you can get a Pentium 4 2.7 ghz i absolutely promice a permormance jump. Then guess what? your video card becomes the bottleneck. Im going through this myself... I had celeron 2.0 went t pentium 2.8... now im taking out the last bottleneck in my system, my 5200.Use birthdays and christmases to your advantage, I did.

Check ebay for good deals on used processors and video cards. It's not worth it to buy new parts for such an old computer. As long as your're carefull used parts can be just as good as new.

i wouldnt think the celeron to be your bottleneck, because of the lower L2 cache they tend to OC rather well id even go as far to say that a new graphics card only will solve your problems, you did not mention a budjet so on a pinch a second hand 9800 would build make for a very tidy era system...and overclock that celeron they are built for it(IMHO):)

Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
OC'ing a celery is like putting NOS on a Yugo.

Everyone else here is right. look around e-bay for a used AMD64 and supporting motherboard. Buy some cheap RAM and a used X800 or so. Spend $300 and have a really decent gaming machine.

@HIGHROLL3R

We can give you better advice if you do two things for us:

1./ Download http://www.belarc.com/ , install it, run it, and post the results. It will tell us about your machine in a bit more detail

2./ Tell us exactly what you want from your PC. Is it internet and one or two games? Which ones.

Also, do a check as follows: Open up your PC and look carefully at the CPU cooler. Check that all 4 clips are secure. Now turn it on. Is the fan spinning properly?

How many "background" trayicon apps &/or services are you running over there?

It could be you're just "Breaking the Camel's back" by pushing that one more HEAVY process (relative term, but I feel games qualify on this account)

It could be only that... that you are doing that...

Have you seen this thread:

& tried what it extolls to increase your system's overall performance? If not??

* Try it, @ least in the meantime to see if it helps... cannot hurt!

P.S.=> If you read thru that thread, you will see TONS of folks VERY HAPPY about using its entire array of tips/tricks/techniques noted thruout its content... better performance results! apk
