PSU should face up or down?

I have a coolermaster 922 and a corsair 650tx and was wondering if I should place my PSU fan facing up or down? There is ventilation holes on the bottom of the haf 922. Is there and long term effect if I put it facing up or down? There are three fans blowing in every direction of the case?

Down is better, you can't drop screws into your PSU that way, and it sucks in nice cool air. (You should make a filter for that spot, I did.)

Thx for the info. but what if I won't drop any screws down there? Does it actually get hotter if it is facing upwards?

It'd be fighting for air really, it'd be sucking air down from above, and that's not the way air likes to go with most cases as far as airflow goes.

Oh, and there's going to be a time when you'll drop a screw into it, ask anyone here at TPU that's had their bottom mounted PSU facing upwards.

Fan pointing down be best so it gets air from out side of the case and not from were the video card.

As if you put the fan upside depending on the cooler on your v card you be starving the v card or even the PSU for air or even just dragging hot air in from the v card.

That would be bad xD I do that screw dropping, as my screw bits thing is not magnetized

Like others said, down on bottom is good, gives PSU it's own air loop. And air filter is a must.

Yea, point towards bottom to get air from outside of case, but id recommend a dust filter or something.

Usually the screw holes only allow you to install the PSU one way. If the plate for installing the PSU has to be installed by the user, I always place the fan on the bottom of the PSU facing the motherboard. It exhausts hot air in the case. If there is no fan on the bottom of the PSU, the orientation of the power supply really doesn't matter.

hmmm, i always have mine facing up so i dont get dust... it depends where your PC is located.

If you have your PC on carpet for example, its going to get very little air and lots of dust/fluff clogging that filter real fast.

Since i go to lots LAN events where you cant fit the PC on top of the desk, dust and debris getting sucked up is as much of a concern to me, as you guys have with the screw dropping.

I would have it drawing fresh cool air from the outside of the case. Also i would never put a PC directly on carpet, i would put a piece of cardboard or similar underneath if i had to. Carpet not only creates more dust but also transmit's static electricity.

Pantyhose work well for air filter's IME

i reads this and then turned off my pc and turned mine face down and guess what i found in it....... A DEAD ROUCH!!!!! O_O like wtf how did that get in there

Annnnnyways. To the OP, make a filter for sure, it's not hard to do at all. Facing down would be your best bet unless you NEED another exhaust, but since you have a HAF, I doubt you need one.

I believe, that case has the screw off-sets on the top and bottom of the knock-out, so that you are able to mount the PSU right side up or down.

+1... gotta agree here... that is why I get fans in the front and/or back, not top and/or bottom.

Yeah the dropped screw thing is gonna happen. I have the psu turned vent down in a xigmatek midgard case on my main pc. However on my download rig , the little feet on the bottom of the case are nearly flat and the filter is touching the carpet. I turned the psu in that rig face-up or it wouldn`t get much air.

i just turned mine to face up, it was causing excessive noise having the fan blocked by a filter, and then the floor of the case.

i just put the filter on top of the PSU, no screws for me.

glad to hear other people have dropped a screw in their psu

i have mine going up i tried down but it got hotter and loader but thats just probable my case being very close to the table top like .25 inch gap
