Hey TPU, haven't been here in awhile since I built my last system. It's worked nicely since I've had it for almost exactly a year, but I'm just not completely satisfied with it's performance with what I'm doing now. I'm getting into a lot of video editing and gaming and the e8400 C2d (OC to 3.6) just isn't cutting it. So I think it's about time for an upgrade, especially since the new X6's just came out! :)

So basically since I've been out of the loop for awhile, I'm hoping you guys can inform and help me make a good decision for a build.

-------------------

So, this much I know I'd like:

Either the

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Socket AM3 125W Six-Core
AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz 6 x 512KB L2 ...

OR

AMD Athlon II X3 435 Rana 2.9GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Processor
AMD Athlon II X3 435 Rana 2.9GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cach...
+
Along with a motherboard that features 'advanced clock calibration' and allows the 4th core to be unlocked.

-------------------

The rest is all a Work in progress I suppose. I hope to sell my current rig for close to $500 (if i get lucky). I plan on swapping my current 1TB hdd, GTX 260, and dvd for different spare parts around my house before selling though, so I will not need to buy the hdd, gfx, or disk drive with the new build.

So all in all I'm looking for a good Mobo, Ram, PSU, and Case to go along with either of the two processors listed above. I'll start off with my budget around $600 or so and see what that gets me. If anyone has built a X6 or X3 build similar to what I am looking for, please post what you bought and how much. I'd like to get a lot of deals with my build.

Thanks!

EDIT: Alright, I plan on putting in my order tomorrow night. This is what I have so far:

Any suggestions? I'm definitely getting the processor and case. I'm still up for suggestions for the mobo, RAM, and HDD. If you think there will be a better deal on a hard drive, let me know because I'm in no dire rush for a hard drive atm but I'd like a 2nd. I also saw something about best buy having the h50 cooler for $60 so I'll check there before I order.

(FYI: I already have the psu, dvd drive, and GPU)

Does that budget include the CPU or not?

For the video editing, the 6 core will really give you better performance and last you longer.

yes, it would include everything minus the GPU, HDD, and the dvd drive. I'm a little flexible with the budget but that's about what I'd like to reach.

And that's what I assumed. My friend is trying to get me to get the X3 since it can be unlocked to have 4 cores and is a lot of bang for buck.

There are a few great deals on nice PSU's floating around in the forums right now as well as a 1055T combo

Are you opposed to slightly used hardware? I think his is brand new in box... Maybe make that guy an offer on that CPU.

I agree that it does have a ton of value for cheap, but if you do decide on the X3, get the 720 Black Edition so that you have an unlocked multiplier. That's what I'm running as my backup rig right now while I work on my TJ07 and i7 build.

The X6 is really going shine in the video editing apps, and from what I've seen, clock per clock are overall faster then the X3's.(I may be misunderstanding something.)

I remember seeing that while browsing newegg. Looks good but I'm not to sure about the PSU and how that will handle. Not sure what brand it is.. Case is nice tho, my neighbor actually has it with his i7 build. It's big but the fans are amazing! Also, the Mobo looks nice but the 2xPCI express doesn't please me too much.. One will be used up with my GPU, so that only leaves 1 left over. Do you think that would be enough?

Here's what I would recommend:

Case - COOLER MASTER GLADIATOR 600
MoBo - ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3

I'll look at some of these, thanks!

I'm looking for more of "new" but he says his is basically new so I'll shoot a pm. thanks for the info!

Oops!

Forgot that the RAM I mentioned was already a kit of 2, so inserted a "2x" before (though it was only one DIMM). This makes two kits (a lot of ram) but also very expensive. I actually meant one kit.

Sorry mate!

Oh that PSU is great! It's an Antec EarthWatts, check jonnyguru.com for psu reviews

2 PCI-E slots is much more than enough IMO, do you really need more than 2 graphics cards? ever?

No, I only plan on using 1 GPU anyways.. I just thought that the PCI-e was a more universal port and most "accessories" used them. I guess I'm mistaken? (it's been awhile lol)

PCI is what accessories use sometimes... and you probably will only use 1 pci slot ever lol

Also been looking at this:

Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, L...

I could use the extra 1tb and set up a Raid1. The rest of the items in the combo look pretty decent. Not sure about the Mobo yet but I'll look more into it. On my last build, I didn't look to much into the Mobo and I feel like it almost bottlenecks my system. I should have spent the extra $10-$20 and gotten a more powerful one in hindsight.

Hmmm, I was just wondering if you can pick up a Q9650, that way you don't need to overhaul your entire pc and still get a decent upgrade in speed. However, the Q9650 are expensive for its performance, so you might want to pick up a used one.

I guess I just want to start new. I'm just getting tired of my current pc and would like to get something different. There are 3 things i like about my current build: PSU, GPU, and HDD. Everything else just isn't quite appealing to me anymore. I built my pc not exactly looking for the future, more of what can I get for cheap and still be powerful.

still is crazy that I bought my 2x2gb PNY ram for 42.99 a year ago and now it is 99.99

I havent got much to add except shoot for 8 GBs of ram this time, no point settling for the same capacity as before as its a bit sideways.

My bad, newegg has good deals if you are in America! :)

The build looks good.

yes, I thought of doing 8gb this time, but I'd rather not spend the extra $100 as of now. Plus there aren't any good deals for 8gb of ddr3 ram atm. There's this geil dragon stuff I think, but still more expensive than I'd like to spend
