Normal 4870 temps

Can someone help me with the MEMIO temps of my card,

It currently idials at 68c

Under load its around 85c to 90c.

Reakon those are normal temps?

I have a powercolor radeon pcs 4870 1gb

clock speeds are 770mhz core and 900mhz ram

Theyre reasonable load temps, maybe a touch on the high side.
The idles on the MEMIO of my Xfx reference 4870 512 where a lot lower, 44C at 25% fan:

Not much to worry about, and you have a PCS anyway. Mine is currently 67C @47% fan. (reference 4870)

Underclocked it @ 375 core and 450 mem too while not in 2D.

also to note other temps are v low, core is 52c idle and 63c under load, shader core is 58c idle and under laod is around 65c, i have been having probs with it lately with it articating but i think it was cause of my system ram not being at the proper voltage.

however it wont complete furmark test without crashing my display driver is this normal? also use to bluescreeen saying attempt to recover the display driver from timeout failed

i had two of those exact cards til last week.

~70C load was normal for me on the stock cooler, and i never went over 50 on the cooling i had (GPU temps)

68C idle is too high, imo. reseat the cooler.

i found the card would crash if memIO went above 95C or so.

Looks like the MemIO is the problem. Much to high just at idle. Have you cleaned the card itself? Make sure the HSF is clear of dust etc. I spray mine out every few weeks to make sure the fins around the fan are clear and able to vent. Check the card and make sure the HSF is clear of dust etc. Also if it doesn't correct the problem you may want to reseat the cards HSF.

if you ignore my sexy fan mod, you can see a goldish colored heatsink below the PCI-E plugs, thats where the memio sensor is reporting. cool that.

that card looks different to mine, but yes. replace the thermal pad/thermal paste whatevers underneath that heatsink.

Yes you want to make sure you have proper ventilation to that heatsink.

That looks ALOT different than my card also.

i pressed down on it and temp has lowered by 10c so defo is it thanks for the help. seems the compound has run dry.

I'd pull it off replace the compound and do the same with the GPU HSF also. :)

keep an eye on it and lowering the clock speed is fine. You should be ok.

Card should be fine, but you may as well downclock the card in the meanwhile!

You should also consider placing a fan directly at the gold heatsync for the meantime.

definitely get a fan blowing over it.


downclocking it wont reduce the voltage, which is the main cause for the heat. be careful so that you dont kill it in the meantime... temps of 120C or so on memio *will* kill the card.

i wont be using it for anything just normal browsing so should be ok i hope

also now its running at 55c now ive lowered memory to 450mhz.

do u reakon this has been to blame for my artficating in windows and driver crashing, sorta been getting speckled green pixels over the screen lines and problems when running blu rays to

I am pretty sure you are mistaking. Memio is a part of the GPU itself, the memory controller, and not on the rear part of the card. These are voltage regulators, and not memio. Ask W1zzard, thats what he told me!
