First install XP than Windows 7. So the loader of W7 would make dual boot menu. If you install W7 than XP use W7 setup disk and do a repair it takes 1 min and would install boot loader for dual boot.

I see you've had pretty much all answers.I'd add, fix win7 first with your installation dvd by doing a startup repair(you may need to repeat that 2-3 times),
than you can fix the winxp boot entry without going into much trouble.
If, after fixing seven, winxp is seen as a boot entry, simply change your settings from the boot settings in the advanced system options, otherwise, if it is not seen, just install easyBCD like it was laready mentioned and add the boot entry for xp.
I suppose you have no 100MB win7 recovery partition so point your entry to the partition where winxp is installed.

Another option is within win7 from cmd run bcdedit, but that's more complicated than easybcd.
Cheers

Dont do anything yet. just download and install EasyBCD, it will work.

EDIT: Why did you delete your XP. EasyBCD will fix that easily. aawww

if you want reinstall your XP again and your windows 7 and if it doesn't work naturally. use EasyBCD. you can even change the OS' boot name like: "My awesome Windows 7" or "Good Ol' Windows XP"

Ok, I have made my partition and quick format assigned drive letter etc under disk mgt. Next I install win XP from windows? I assign it to the new volume I created?
Then I reboot and if it doesnt give me the option of dual boot I will run which ever os loads and, and install and run easybcd from there to make it find bioth boot files?

Look, once again if you install winxp after installing seven you have to use win7 dvd then to do the startup repair and then use easybcd within win7 to add winxp boot option.
Easybcd as far as i remember is not compatible with winxp and it will not repair your win7 boot manager.Because winxp does not have a real boot manager in grub style like seven does and it's not compatible with seven, you must use win7 bootmanager to boot up both op.systems.

Do exactly just like this. Install Windows XP.(repair install or clean)if you want. then install windows 7(repair or clean). the install easyBCD on windows 7. then add your windows xp.

That's right..or if you can install a clean copy of seven the order of install would be winxp-win7...no need to install easybcd in this case as win7 recognizes the winxp installation and will show you that in the bootlist (maybe under the name of "previous version of windows")...
Cheers

EasyBCD has more customization options so its better to install it. you can change the "previous version of windows" name to any name you want like: My freakin' XP!

EasyBCD has more customization options so its better to install it. you can change the "previous version of windows" name to any name you want like: My freakin' XP!

Or "That old crap windows os":nutkick:
Anyways...better to keep it simple, in this case!;)
