That would be because your running it at 4.3Ghz. An highly OC'd 720 should be right with that from everything I'm seeing. Which makes sense since their price is close.

Whats a "highly overclocked" 720 Black? Most of them cant even get 3.7Ghz and at that clock it doesnt come anywhere near an i3 530 overclocked. Correction, 4.3ghz @ STOCK voltages.

I used a i3 540 and I didn't notice that. I actually thought my x3 was better on my M4A79T.

I have two AMD systems currently:

-AMD Athlon (700 MHz)
-AMD Opteron 180 (2.4 GHz)

That Opteron 180 is likely to be replaced by a Phenom II X4 when it acts up.

AM3 is starting to hit the end of its useful life with the new architectures AMD is debuting in a year or two. In all seriousness, another socket lasting as long as LGA775 or AM2/AM3 isn't too likely. The more stuff they throw on the CPU die, the more the contacts have to change. That is the direction the industry is moving in.

Pretty sure Hector Ruiz (former AMD CEO) said that about Core 2 Quad being MCM. That statement stabbed him in the back through because AMD was was late with their Phenom's and they grossly under performed the MCM Intel chips. Now, AMD offers MCM chips like the 12-core Operton 6000 chips (2 x 6-core modules).

Or was it something The Inquirer said? Anyway, whoever said it couldn't be more wrong.

Actually the X3 720 was one of the better OC chips most of the people that got stuck at 3.7 or 3.8 were using the unlocked cores so it was a Quad core at that speed.

People who stuck with the 3 core format got an average right at 4 with 4.2 being the max on air. That is pretty sick considering the stock speed is 2.8 Ghz.
