Upgrading power supplies - two computers

Got burned by a Hiper TypeR 580w PSU that was my main PSU for years, took a motherboard down with it.

So, I'm hell bent to replace my main PSU and secondary computer PSU with something up to date, more efficient and reliable.

I just got the Corsair 750HX for $130 A/R: CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W ATX12V 2.3 / EP...

Amazingly, I'm already seeing one benefit... the system draw at the plug idle is down to 85w from a previous 140w with the Hiper. That's with basically no video card (a Matrox PCI.)

So... for my second rig which will likely never see SLI, nor a top end video card, I'm thinking of getting the 650HX (it's $79 with promo code and rebate): CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-650HX 650W ATX12V v2.2 / E...

Overkill? I can't find any reviews on the 650, though plenty on the 750. Wondering if the 650HX is a good choice. Both have a 7 year P&L warrantee.

Any Corsair power supply is good, I would be very surprised that the 650HX does not perform up to standard.

You never go wrong with a Corsair PSU.
Don't go thinking on overkill issues. If the HX650 doesn't get full load, it just means it'll last longer (less likely to failure or without max power decrease), because it won't get severe capacitor aging.

That's nice looking...but the price is almost twice the Corsair.

corsairs are generally silent at idle, and barely audible at load (and by load, i mean 350W+)

and yes, you will definitely see lower idle wattage on the better PSUs, the efficiency is quite a big deal. Load will also be lower.

650HX is an older design than the 750, but its still corsair, and its still gunna run either of your systems with room to spare.

Wondering why I can't seem to find any reviews of the 650HX. The ones for the 750HX are plenty and all I've read have been great. It was a toss up between that and the XFX BE 750. I liked the looks of the XFX too, but... warrantee was less and price was more, both 80Plus Silver.

you could always just get a second 750, in a low powered machine you know it truly will last all seven (or is it 5?) years of the warranty.

Being cheap I'd actually go for a CX400/VX450 if its low-power.
