 You misunderstand. I love UT2004, but I'm not an avid online player. Translocating action in CTF gives me a headache, and I'm not too good at deathmatch. I'm fine with single player/casual online gaming. And no I don't have an Xfire. But if you see someone called "Aegis", "Darth Flatulence", or "The Clown" while gaming, you can be sure it's me (goes for other games too).

Yeah, I have it. I need to install it, just forgot after reformating. Ketxxx was starting a clan called Thanatos Legion, but he hasn't been around lately. Shoot me a PM or a yahoo message if you want to play.

I have it, and I play it quite a bit, when I'm not on Halo 2, Oblivion, CS:S, or Call of Duty 2. Basically on weekends I play it, mostly Onslaught, but sometimes Team Deathmatch as well.

XFire: azntr14dz

We need to have Ketxxx start the Clan, so many of us can get into the game again (since many people are out if it/haven't installed it yet...)

I used to play a lot of this... but only the competitive gametypes. 1v1 duel, TDM, and for a brieff sting CTF.

I'm hesitant on 2007. The series has become progressively worse since ut99 and a lot of the new junk they added (vehicles, sheild gun, adren) just takes all the skill out of the game and turns into into a noob fest or distorts the gameplay. Plus some of the bugs (dud rockets that go through the guy) can get frustrating.

They say they are going back to basics, if they do I'll be playing 1v1 and TDM again.

The unreal and quake franchises are my favorite on the PC.

Practicly the only thing I play is instagib CTF and bombing run. You have to have SKILL to play against some of those guys. I love the game.

I played clanned IG BR and CTF back in ut2003... while it does take "some" skill. It takes no where near the skill that NW 1v1 and TDM take. Then again only 1v1 and TDM attract large prize purses of over 10k... which tends to insure they have the best players.

Oddly enough the best NW players have far superior movement and hitscan aim then the best IG players.

I was/am (ut is no longer on that league) for one of the leagues dropping cash prizes for gaming. It's interesting to watch who comes from what background and how skilled they are.

Generally, I can smack guys around in normal deathmatch and 1v1, but in instagib, I don't do as well.

The thing is playing on a public server isn't indicative of the skill set. The skilled 1v1/tdm players only play on private servers or in competitive events with prizes. You'll never encounter them unless you know them.

The majority of players outside of that are noobs. However after having played both IG and 1v1/tdm I can say 100% correctly that the skill level and talent of the 1v1/TDM community blows IG out of the water, it blows everything out of the water.

That doesn't mean it's a better/superior gametype. It's not, a game type is a game type it's apples and oranges. It's also comparing gamers with sponsors and a competitive history, against casual players.

The downfall of 1v1/TDM is that at a high level it's incredibly harsh. Blow outs by 100 kills in TDM is par for the course, even with two evenly skilled teams. Because at a high level kills don't matter, map lock and inverse map locks matter. Once you lock down every gun so you pick it up when it respawns, every armor, every DD, it turns into a slaughter fest.

IG"s fun because you start with the best gun. So strategy and aim don't matter. It's great to get back into the battle and not have to out shoot, and out think a person just to pick up a weapon so you aren't dead meat.

It's part of the reason a lot of people train for NW CTF using ICTF as training wheels. I know I still do.

Also IG in UT99 took a ton more skill then IG in ut2kX.

Aim doesnt matter in insta? That's crazy :p
I agree NW is a much higher skilled level of play. I played with CPG-TS when I first started, and murd and snakez would basically train me a bit while they were having their... whatever the welsh eat. Sheep probably.
In nwCTF, the translocator is the thing I dont like. It's the whore of all weapons, and I just cant work the bastard.
One of the reasons I never wanted to play UT at a higher level is also maplock. I hate that "strategy" coming into play, it takes out all the enjoyment from it for me.

That's why I've never taken any game of Quake or UT really seriously, apart from the odd iCTF game, and why I'm more of a CoD2 or Rainbow Six (on the xbox) player.

Counterstrike can fuck right off though.

Aim doesn't matter in insta as much as it does in NW.

IG is all hitscan. However the gun fires fast as hell and actually is a kill on a larger area. In NW the closest guns are the LTG and shock. The LTG forces you to aim on the head for the instant kill, and with the shock if you can keep the cursor dead on them you can repeatedly bounce them for an near instant kill (those 3 shots go fast). That takes a lot more aim then the insta shock.

That's why NW players tend to have far better aim then IG players. My aim becomes worse the more IG I play. Yet when I walk into IG from NW I can hit insane percentages.

I'll admit aim doesn't translate into kills. You can take a ton of shots and miss a lot of them yet get a lot of kills. Or you can take a few shots and get a small amount of kills.

The thing about IG is since it's void of all strategic elements (no items to control, no guns to lock) the "take a lot of shots who cares how on point they are" logic takes hold. In NW it's not about the kills, it's about the control, so all the shots you take had better be dead on, and count. There is also the issue of having to deal with prediction shots, and mid air projectiles that aren't instant hit. It's easy to nail somebody out of the air with the LTG or shock (in fact the engine makes it easier then it is to hit them on the ground) pulling a mid air rocket or flak bar is a far more compicated matter.

ICTF is fun because it bucks the more advanced stratey and skill sets and let's you get down to the meat and bones of CTF... the flags. It's very addcitive and far more fun since you don't have to worry about the status of 20 guns 2+ armors, a keg, and the DD. IBR is fun because when in IG LG you can pull some sick mid air interceptions, and like ICTF you don't have to worry about the more complicated issues.

I agree with you on maplock, it's not fun. In fact it's brutal. But that's just part of the game and map lock tends to seperate the noobs from the decent players. Top level map lock is outright vicious. I've handed people 1v1's where I forced them into the negatives due to map lock... I've also been worked that bad as well.

Rainbow Six is a great game, and I agree with you on CS. I can't stand it.
