I hope the face recognition isn't considered a secure login method. If it's using shitty webcams I'm betting you could just print out a picture of someone's face and fool it.

The only thing I like so far from what I read is the ability for it to turn off when you walk away. Although I can see where this gets frustrating. Imagine going to get a glass of water and always having to turn back on your computer. wow now that I think about it this is just fail... I mean only good thing would be to put it into standby or hibernate but I never let my computer do that. And having the computer turn on when your near it is a bad idea too. Wow they really need to get some better ideas.

Wow Microsoft, you've started to get into a tick-tock scheme with your OSes. Lets see:

  • 2000 (good)
  • ME (crap)
  • XP (good)
  • Vista (Crap)
  • 7 (Good)
  • 8 (Crap)

Well done. You've managed to put in features nobody was asking for, unlike Windows 7 which was EXACTLY what we wanted. I REALLY don't like the idea of the computer watching me when I walk up to it, or walk away (that is an entry point for hacksaws). I don't the idea of cloud computing (again hacksaws and this time internet usage will shoot through the roof and recently all the internet plans in my country went crap and the biggest you can find is about 40GB). I don't like the idea of motion sensor integration. All of these features seem like novelties and help it out in absolutely no way whatsoever.

Thank you very much Microsoft. I knew the epicness of Windows 7 wouldn't last. You had to ruin it by making another version. Well, I suppose it's time to put Mac OS on my computer, and lord knows I hate that enough.

EDIT: Just noticed something, why do the pictures say all over them 'Under NDA' and 'Microsoft Confidential'. Who leaked this?

2012 still a looooong way to go. Or did you forgot about the End of the World crap?!?? :rockout::rockout::rockout::toast:

Being a little serious now, I cannot wait to see what MS understands by "improved loading times" and "fast Windows booting". This means it will actually require less resources than Win7??????
Also no word if it will be only 64bit, since 32bit OS is not even used on laptops anymore, not to mention on desktops with more than 4GB of RAM....

Come on new file system

+1 to that, ntfs is just way to old and is way far behind any other.

Once Steam comes good enough on Linux (any linux) good by Windows.

That's freakin retarded. Most ppl that want those features more then likely already have them on their pc via 3rd party. If it works fine, why replace it? My laptop has the whole face sign-in, bluetooth, speed. Doesn't have touchscreen but i don't like that. I'm cleaning my screen 2 much as it is. This is going to be way over priced for features That's been out for a few yrs now. And there talking 2012. WTH!!!

Motion sensor integration is for tablets with such hardware. When properly used I can imagine it can come in useful.

Anywhooo, not much info as of yet. That entire face recognition might come in handy sometimes for some people, but I assume it's possible to turn off. I kinda like the MS Store thing, might make it easier to install/uninstall stuff on the fly, and it might be a good gateway for newbs to find useful programs.

And cloud is the future, deal with it. I don't like it either, but everything is going that way. :(

Also, I would just like to point out that Windows 7 is actually a lot like Vista. Like a whole lot, once you start to dig into it. The Vista bashing is mostly undeserved imo.

I really like the concept ideas in these slides.

Less, machine-centric, more user-centric.
Basically, every machine becomes a terminal for any person, wherever they are.

This sounds pretty much like the future.

And to whomever is whinning about having a camera facing towards you:
- Yeah, I'm pretty sure the "government" is trying to spy on your face, 24/7, because you're that important...

I don't like the idea of storing my personal stuff on the internet where any little s**t can access it if he has the time, and that's why I don't like the idea of a cloud system. It's annohying enough dealing with Steam which refuses to work for me these days and because of that I can no longer play any of my Steam games. Imagine if the cloud system decides to go down one day and you can't use your computer. Imagine all the people out there with crap internet (everyone in New Zealand can relate).

You don't realise how third world our internet is. Our fastest speeds are 10Mbits and to get that you have to get a small cap (like biggest I've found is 40GB), and then you have to pay heaps. NZ has quite possibly the worst internet in the world, and now it's going to be made worse because Microsoft wants us to use a cloud system.

No thanks, especially when you are dealing with massive Adobe Premiere Pro project files which are over 10GB each. I would go through my bandwidth cap in a day with Microsoft making me upload it to them (not to mention it would take a few hours to login.

Of course I haven't forgotten about the farmers in NZ who have ever worse internet than me. About 80% of farmers in NZ (and we are a farming country which means they aren't a minority) are still on dial-up because the lines are too crap to run ADSL. They will have it worse. How the heck are they going to run on a cloud system?

Cloud systems are not the way of the future. I don't care what people say in pro to them, they are useless and I see no point in them. Why do I have to upload all my work to Microsoft in the off chance I will go to a mates computer, forget my laptop, forget my USB flash drive which is attached to my keyring, forget my external hard drive and need to work on something. Massive thumbs down for this version of Windows for me all because of the cloud system.

WTH!!!

just like MS OS's nevcer used to come with a browser (well, DOS didnt), but 3rd party people had it.

or no defragger, or media player, or burning software, etc etc.

what the hell is wrong with MS adding more features to the OS? they're free, more likely to work properly, and save you money/bloat from getting the third party crap.

Most of these features will be for laptops/PDA's/netbooks.

I'm looking forward to Windows 10.
I hear they are going to have something called "DNA Buddy"
It will not only secure your computer based on your DNA sample, but it will tell you if your wife/girlfriend is pregnant, your dog has herpes or your cat is genetically dispositioned to homosexuality.

That of course, was tongue in cheek. The new OS will obviously have more features.
Shut off what you don't like, and feel free to pay for 3rd party add-ons if you don't like what Ms includes in the package.

text about cloud

Yeah well, I kinda agree with everything here. But everyone and everything is still going there. That Google OS cannot be used outside the Cloud at all.

And this info does not tell us much anyway. I don't think they make it mandatory to use those "features". It's Windows ffs, there's usually a way around it. Heres hoping.

the only way cloud will work is if you can run your own cloud server.

EG, one server in the home and your media PC runs off of it, requiring no HDD in itself.

Isn't it then easier to just use LogMeIn service? I mean sure it's not the same but this thing can be useful if you're at work but you have to do stuff from your computer. Anything you can do at home you can using LogMeIn on a remote system. Any system. Except playing games and video due to bandwidth restrictions. Payable versions even allow you to hear sounds and music from your computer on remote host and print documents from your home computer to a remote host printer.
