well, i'm currently running 2x 74 gig raptors in raid 0. but 150 gigs is just not enough with how big games are getting these days. esp. unreal tournament 2004 almost 12 gigs for a game that old wtf.

the only thing i run on my raid is windows 7 programs and game files. so i'm not worried about loosing any data. if a drive falls out, i'm only loosing time on reinstalls.

at first i was thinking of buying a couple of 320 gig single platter drives. but i didnt really have enough money and then, what would i do with 2 74 gig raptors? not enough space to even bother trying to use for storage.

so i checked ebay and old raptors are selling alot cheaper than i expected. so i posted up a wtb here and found a kind person to sell me a drive he wasnt using.

my question is- how much faster than my current 2 drive raid will 3 raptors be? and also how much slower than a current gen 7200rpm 2x drive raid setup, will mine be? i know a pair of the new 600gig raptors will blow mine away. but i just can't afford that kind of money right now.

it will be fast not quite SSD quick but if you can get the drives cheap i would run 4 of them you should be faster than an SSD at that point when i had the 36gb versions back in the day 4 of them was cooking performance wise

the 74gb raptors are quite slow compared to newer drives.....

a single platter 500GB drive will often beat out the older raptors.

if you can get more raptors for Cheap, IE $40 or less for the 74gb drives then it might be worth it.... imo anything more then $40 for the older raptors just isnt worth it.

Just RAID some modern 7200RPM drives... like the WD Black, or Seagate 7200.12s.

whats you raid 0 speed? 74mb/sec each??

avg 130m,b/sec???

a vr300 get firt the first 60g 130+mb/sec, same with a any hdd that uses (500g platter) hdds

if you get 1 hdd thats 500g platers, the first 200 gig wll be with 130-100mb/sec..

just partition it(c 200g) (rest d:)

(its like short stroking a hdd.)
