Having problem with my printer?

Ok I have an HP Deskjet D4160 printer (about 3 years) and has had no problems up until now. My prints stay in "pending" status and never end up printing at all When it properly work it would print right away! I went to device manager to update the drivers but win7 is a little different then xp. Is this a driver issue or something else?

Most likely, its the same message I had when I installed a lexmark printer on win7 lately. Found that the drivers didn't work on 7 and dloded a vista one. Also if it aint that, you might check the cables, sometimes these mess up. But it would be pretty obvious since it wouldn't have detected the printer, so the driver is more likely to be the fault here.

Yeah it has to be the drivers, but it's weird because I never had any problems with it on Win7 this past year. I did switch the printer to another machine with win7 and it worked fine. There is no message that comes up, the document just sits in pending.

I will dl the drivers from the website and try that.

Ok I downloaded the drivers from the site and still nothing, I tried uninstalling them and have Win7 reinstall it's own drivers and still no response.

As high lighted- the status says it's printing but nothing actually happens I also tried reset the ink cartridges cause I have now idea what it could be now....this is the simplest printer, no scanner or fax, nothing.

The printer worked fine after I installed Win7, just these past couple weeks it start acting up. Thanks Viper, I will give it a try....brb

Nope, nothing worked however I did run an ink test which turned out fine so I know the printer is fully functional. It's just not communicating with Windows correctly. Could it have anything to do with non-genuine copy of Windows? (Someone sold me what I thought was a legit copy and 90 days later it got blocked)

Could, but doubt it.

Alright, Unplug the printer. Go to device manager and delete(remove) all USB, Printer, and other ghosted entries in those catagories. If it has a check box or asks to remove software, say yes to any HP stuff. Goto "programs and features" in the control panel and un-install any Hp stuff for the printer. Then when finished re-boot. DO NOT hook the printer back up.

After the re-boot, install the HP printer software for that printer ( HP Photosmart and Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers and HP Print Diagnostic Utility ) and version of Windows. Hook up the printer when it tells you to or after the install of the software.

If ^this^ does not work... you might want to try a different usb port and cable.

Try this and see if you can get the key to work, it could be just a borked WGA(damaged files, missing license components ,etc.)

Ok I installed the new drivers from you links and the Diagnostic Utility is telling me that there is an error with the black ink cartridge. I will go buy a new one and see if that fixes the problem....I will let you

Good luck! By the way, I don't know if its a coincidence but while reading this today with mozilla, I saw a WCG persona on FF and I went online to see who made it, guess what, is was made by... t77snapshot! Great work man! Was nice to see a tpu persona!

I found the problem!

I know this thread is borderline dead, but I just want to complete the issue for future user with the same problem to know it was an error with the black ink cartridge. After I replaced the cartridge the printer worked like a charm! I would like to thank those who have hepled me with this issue and a special thanks to 95Viper for all your efforts.

Haha yeah! your like the 3rd person to find my WCG persona. I am surprised people from TPU actually found it, thank you.
