Looking for some laptop purchasing advice!

Pretty soon, I will be going into the IT industry with a new job I have been offered, which I will take here in 2 weeks. So I want and need a new laptop. I'm not as knowledgeable with laptops as I am with desktops, so I will need some advice on what I can get. Here are some basic requirements of mine:

1) A somewhat fast dual-core or decent quad-core (Intel/AMD, don't matter)
2) 4GB ram is a must
3) Video card around the power of a 5750 or even 5670
4) A 720p HD capable screen resolution
5) less than $1000 (is it possible to find what I want within this price?)

Hmmm. Very interesting. It would be very beneficial if I could learn a Mac OS in the field of IT. I will definitely consider it. Thanks for the suggestion

do you live in a newegg taxed area?

whats more important, the GPU or resolution to you?

used or refurbished? would you go there?

Hmmm. Well, the question would then be, what video card solution would be able to handle HD movies well? I'm more leaning towards the resolution which is more important to me because really, this laptop will not be used for hardcore gaming at all. Maybe a game or 2 to keep me from being bored, but nothing that will require a strong card at all.

Having the warranty on it is a big plus, which is why I prefer to buy new, not refurb or used. If used, I would get it from someone off here that I can trust. Not too many people out "there" in the real world that are selling laptops that I know, much less trust.

And yes, I live in a Newegg taxed area. Sucks I know, which is why I try to purchase at different websites like tigerdi***t and others.

The more I think about HD movies, the more I think of saving money and being a budget kind of system. I don't think a FULL HD screen is necessary now. A 720p screen would suffice just fine. Sometimes I'm a little decided in what I want when I start to think about what I initially want. Ok, changed my spec requirements a little.
