VIA audio trouble

hey guys i am having problems with VIA audio on my mobo.


the problem is that the sound stops up(hangs) for a couple of seconds quite frequently.
and when the VIA harware manager is installed, my PC stays at a constant 50% load. this dont happen when the manager isnt installed.

also sometimes the "rear optical audio out" jack shows up in the place of the volume control!!!


is my audio fxxxxd up?
i got an ASUS M4A785D0-M Pro, a month old and Windows 7 x64 enterprise.


i have already tried flashing bios,
installing latest drivers,
and my ATI HD audio is disabled in device manager.

I have the same VIA chip. Where did you get the driver from? Also I have an idea about the 50% load part. Try disabling the "High definition audio controller" in device manager.

sounds like a bad driver to me..... have you tried compleatly uninstalling and deleteing the driver, then letting windows install the driver for it..

Worst comes to worst, try a fresh install of windows. I had a bad install once that didn't remember drivers for my 5770 after a reboot for some reason.

For VIA audio driver, I will recommend to uninstall current driver --> Use CCleaner --> Use Windows Update to get driver update for it. It will work perfectly.

meh via audio chips are notoriously buggy
sounds like a IRQ conflict
there are a few things you can try
remove/disable unnecessary BIOS devices ( serial/com ports )
increase the PCI latency timer
clear the CMOS

YOU NEED to disable ATI's HDMI audio in the device manger if you are not using it

Where are you getting your drivers? They are updated on the Asus support page.

Goto the VIA website and get the newest drivers directly. i had to do that with my current HTPC board cause the disc and website had over drivers

i got the latest drivers from the VIA page itself.

look for hardware interupts or other conflicts using process explorer
disable firewire in device manager and see if that helps. (if u find any interupts/conflicts)

one my 4650, that is disabled,
the other "High Definition audio device" disabling this the sound goes X.(obviously)

hey i dont have a single apple product. and the CPU isnt at 5% when the VIA codec is un-installed, or any sound/vid file hasnt been played after startup. i have VIA uninstalled.

i think there was a problem with my Otical output, as this thing showed up in the volume area, but i disabled it. lets see if the problem is still there.

Why don't you run the apps/drivers that cause the trouble and post screen shots of the process explorer or task manager process window? So we can see the problem...

As someone mentioned before, about latency, you can use this: (DPC Latency Checker) to check it, but I don't believe that is the problem. If it is, it can usually be corrected.

before this install of vdeck i had removed drivers wit CCleaner.
this drivers have been downloaded from via site itself.
i will try the one asus is giving. *fingers crossed*.

just removed previous drivers and installed the one provided bu AsuS. working normal so far...
