At my school it was a constant issue. Kids would go as far as prying open lockers to take them.

Yeah BOY! Nice coding!

MatLab FTW!!!!

ps whats your major PVT?

Also, I have matlab on my machine too! 2010a ftw! :rockout:

My major is computer science.

TI89 on the SAT is ok, ACT is a no.

Cannot use on the SAT. TI-82, 83, and 84 and under only. No 89. Trust me.

Why do you think I have 4? No seriously?

Just kidding, I actually got them from kids at my high school who never used them.

Its been years since I took the test, but the TI-89 was fine. Of course things have changed since then. However I did look on the Collegeboard website and the guidelines they set do not make the 89 unacceptable. By all means show me where it says otherwise.

TI also has this posted on their website:

Ahh it appears I was wrong. I remember specifically when I took the SAT (4 years ago) that some kid had his score voided for having a TI-89. Must have been changed. You are correct!

It was probably a TI-92 with the QWERTY that he got voided for. I picked up an 89 b/c the 92 I had was not allowed on any testing AP, ACT, SAT, and it was a brick.

At my school it was a constant issue. Kids would go as far as prying open lockers to take them.

Oh wow... I left mine laying around unattended all the time: in the library while at lunch—a good half hour... although I expect there was staff in there during this time, although that doesn't stop anything, also I would leave it sitting at the table in the lunch room while standing in line for 10 minutes trying to get my food. I was always nervous about leaving it behind, guess I made it out lucky.

I made this just for this thread. You might recognize the style:

Yo, guys
Anyone sells 84+ or is there another forum which someone wants to sell them?

haha, I still use my 84+ from like 6 years ago. Too bad it's half broken (without some heat, it won't start >_<). I needed it on an exam(probability calc & statistics...) a few weeks back and I had to hold it on my lap for over an hour before the thing wanted to start...

edit: these things never got stolen, because we were forced to buy one (83+ or 84+) at high school. No silver edition allowed nor better models and of course were triple checked on most exams(in high schools) because you could cheat with them. At college we can use a computer though (with maple/matlab).

TI-83+ user here!!
Fantastic calculator, like the guys said, never got stolen and because I knew how to use it, I trolled the f**k of the spoiled brats on my class that had the TI-84+ SE and had no idea of how to use/make/transfer programs and games...
IMHO, the TI-83+ is all that you need. The TI-84 doesn't bring anymore advantages over the TI-83 for it's price. The extra ROM space comes in handy, but it's too darn expensive.
LoL @ the adds. I'm sorry about the cursing, but I just love this one:

Still...
I have the TI-83+ and have studied for 3 years with it (more to come, eventually) and some of my colleagues had TI-84(+), mine always did what theirs did and never disappointed me. The time it takes to preform the math is irrelevant because it still is faster than you and with low ROM space comes program management, load only the ones you need, leave the rest at home...

TI-89 can divide by zero. Answer: "undef."

I don't remember what TI-83 and TI-84 do but I seem to recall it said something other than "undef."

They won't even let us have TI-89's in school, let alone on tests. :(
