NVIDIA today announced the latest addition to its Fermi-class of graphics processing units (GPUs), the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 -- which was designed to deliver the best DX11 price/performance in the $129 USD price category. According to the latest Steam survey, a leading indicator of the hardware used by PC gamers today, 56 percent(i) of gamers play at mainstream resolutions, typically between 1600x1050 and 1280x1024. The GTS 450 was specifically designed to excel at these resolutions, delivering awesome DX11 performance with 4X antialiasing turned on, enabling more gamers than ever before to experience incredibly detailed characters, terrain and game environments with blazing fast performance and awesome visuals.

For games and applications that feature tessellation -- the key feature of DX11 -- the GTS 450 is up to 65% faster than the closest competitive product(ii). Even in last generation DX9 and DX10 games, the GTS 450 is faster by over 30%(iii), including in the blockbuster PC title StarCraft II. This makes the GTS 450 a terrific GPU for playing this year's hottest games including the upcoming holiday titles like Civilization V and HAWX 2, both of which feature support for DX11 and tessellation, and other games, such as Dead Rising 2.

"The GeForce GTS 450 makes huge strides in expanding DX11 capability to the masses," said Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development, Firaxis Games. "Civilization V plays beautifully on the GTS 450 and looks even more amazing with 3D Vision technology."

"We are excited about the GeForce GTS 450, which brings awesome performance to a very affordable price point," said Shinsaku Ohara, Producer of Dead Rising 2 at Capcom. "By delivering a great gaming experience mixed with some cutting-edge features such as support for 3D Vision, we are confident that fans of Dead Rising 2 will have a great platform to play on."

With full support for NVIDIA 3D Vision technology, the GeForce GTS 450 also provides the graphics horsepower and video bandwidth needed to experience games and high definition Blu-ray movies in eye-popping stereoscopic 3D. And with NVIDIA SLI technology, the industry's most scalable multi-GPU platform, gamers will be ecstatic to almost double their gaming performance by adding a second GTS 450 to their PC, when budget allows.

The GeForce GTS 450 is available starting today from the world's leading add-in card partners, including ASL, ASUS, Colorful, ECS, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, Jetway, KFA2, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, Point of View, PNY, Sparkle, Zotac and others.

Not sure how exciting this is, it's about even with a 5750 for the same price... which means it will probably be stomped by the up coming ati refresh. It will be a number of months before nvidia can really respond to that unless they intend to phase GF104/106 out in an incredibly short period of time.

They're really into cutting costs!
They even bothered to only put the PCI-e copper fingers that were absolutely needed!
For games and applications that feature tessellation -- the key feature of DX11 -- the GTS 450 is up to 65% faster than the closest competitive product(ii).
"Up to" means not always...
(ii) GeForce GTS 450 1GB vs. Radeon HD 5750 1GB, running Unigine Heaven 2.0 : 16x10 Tessellation = Extreme

So the HD 5750 scored 15.2 FPS in W1zzard's test, so 33% faster means that the GTS 450 was roughly 5 FPS faster...and ran the test at 20 FPS...yeah, real smooth nVidia! HUGE difference and truly awesome performance without doubt.

Only in the eyes of a "fanboy" could such a plain analysis of fact be considered trolling. If you have some insider knowledge about ati delaying their cards or about nvidia deciding to re-refresh their brand new line-up, or about the 450 having some turbo mode button I missed... then please enlighten me.

considering you can get a 5770 for $140 with custom cooling that is cooler, less power usage, cheaper and most importantly overall faster than the GTS450 i dont see this as a good omen knowing the 5770 has been out for a year and the ATI fresh is coming in 2 months

I'm in the news section but isn't "New NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 Delivers DX11 Done Right to Even More PC Gamers"

Subjective? Hell I would say the card was to underpowered for real decent DX11 performance ( synced with monitor )

It's bad enough the entire thing is a press release but suppose it's okay enough in the thread but using their press release for the title is a bit much and misleading and probably wrong to boot!

Any chance of changing the thread title to something that isn't BS?

for example "New NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 Delivers DX11 to Even More PC Gamers"

Oh shush, truthful statements do not a fan boy make.

What is it with people on this forum ( that will probably sound harsher then I intended, step it down a notch in your head :p ) thinking everything is fanboyism or flaming?

Protip: fanboyism =

MY BRANDS PRODUCT IS TEH AWESOME, NO OTHER PRODUCTS CAN TOUCH IT AND I WILL NEVER TRY THEM.

Or

MY BRANDS COMPETITORS PRODUCTS ARE POOP REGARDLESS OF PERFORMANCE ETC!

All of us have made fair and reasonable comments.

Is this "dx11 done right" no.

Is the card anything special? No, not at all it's competing with 5750, which is also not very special.

Who said that any of it was directed only towards you? lol

And who gives a shit about the title, get over it. Is it really that much of a burden on you that you what to ask for it to be changed?

It's a mainstream card for christ sake, these are the cards Nvidia will be making more money off of anyways, im surprised that the title isn't ''OMG NVIDIA HAS BES DX11 CARD 4 CHEAP!!11 BUY NOW!!11''

And fanboyism doesn't have to be outright. This thread is about a specific card, not about which AMD card to buy.

It's not a good idea to base a comment based around an assumption dude.

Anyway I'm done with this thread I stated my opinion and then stated there was no fanboyism in this thread, that is all.

Sorry but how can you comment on ATI's drivers lately when you dont have an ATI card. Im tired of people shitting on ATI drivers, ive never had a problem with them, sure 10.7s were a little slow but all the rest have been fine. 10.8s once again take the cake and our now dubbed the standard.

to be honest i wouldn't want to get this card at its price might as well just get a 5770, for the same price or a little more its faster at stock and can overclock. sure a 450 can match a 5770 when overclocked but a 5770 can overclock as well.

And we may need some infractions, people need to get over it or take it to PM as this is a News article on the front page of TPU.

I have 10.8's and i have no problems....in fact i've never had problems with any driver with the 5870 or my old 4870's and 3870's.

I've been playing heaps of games too, probably 20 games since i got the 5870(mostly new releases but a few oldies too) they all run great on the highest settings.

I honestly don't see the point of this card. How do you design a card for gamers at the res of 1680x1050 -1280x1024? When most gamers have screens at least 22" or bigger. I'm not playing a game at a lower res (1920x1080). I like having more realistate on my screen. If there going to price these at the price range of the 9800's-gts250-260's then are they lowing the prices of those or is there gonna be 5 diff cards at that price range? If they make the cards more sweeter that may get more ppl buying these so they make money and we get an alright upgrade.

So for now, I may just stick with my dual gts250's till I feel like getting a 460 or better. All the games I play are maxed and run smooth for me.

It's about time for nVidia to rebadge something. After all what else are they to do when AMD comes out with 6000 series.

IMO they are saving the full GF106 core to combat the 6000 series, they obviously left some oomph up their sleeve in that regard, and in regards to clockspeeds, they did the same with GF104, and perhaps even GF100...

in 2-4 months I can see Nvidia releasing the following possible lineup refresh.

-GTS455 (GF106) - 24 ROPS - 192-bit memory interface, 768-1536mb of memory and higher clocks than the GTS450, the extra 8 ROPS and 64-bit mem interface are present on die but disabled.

-GTX475 (GF104) - 384sp's, higher clock speeds, potentially faster memory, 48 locked sp's on die.

-GTX485 (GF100) - 512sp's, higher clock speeds, potentially faster memory, 32 locked sp's on die.

-GTX495 (dual GF104) - 2x384 sp's @ GTX460 clocks or thereabouts.

time will tell wether they will A, even do this, and B, wether it is enough to combat the 6000 series before their next full step.

Even if they do that, I can only see that taking an hit on ATi...sorry...AMD, if the target price of all those cards are the same as the existing and not higher (480 price -> 485 price, 480 price drops). Because if this is going to be even more expensive, well it would fill the holes in the price range, but the Price vs. Performance ratio on those future cards could be questionable (As it is already on the current ones). Either way, I would like to see these hitting the shelves.
