You are correct. Even an Intel P965 (1 16x + 1 16x@4x) board would be sufficient as you dont need tons of bandwith just to run Physx.

EDIT: I wonder if anyone with an Asrock DUAL-VSTA board would be willing to test AGP ATi card + nVidia 8 series card for me.

Sorry, i'm a little confused i have an asus p5k-vm motherbord (G33) chipset, but only 1 4xpcie (not full length) slot free. would i be able to change to windows 7, put the 8500gt in this and it would work?

YES you can run ati + nvda on the same board.
YES you can dedicate nvda card to physx and use ati for video
NO you cant use vista
YES you need xp or 7
NOT all builds of 7 work..... unless you are Fitseries3 who has some supersecret NDAs
YES 7 uses vista drivers.
YES you all need to read my thread to better inform yourself so you can inform others in the future.

It IS possible to use an ATi graphics card and have the Nvidia one as a PhysX card - Same as buying a seperate PhysX card, it isn't trying to be a graphics card, just the PhysX.

However, from what I have read, you can't do this on Vista. Lots of people do it on XP, but as you're on Vista I should give up for now.

So, yes. If you used XP, then you can do it. But keeping Vista, no, you can't. I'll see if I can dig up some links for you.

YES you can

Seems A bit hooky dooky to me . I want the real deal and well that is just what Nvidia has not some hack to try out .

its real. 7 will support this in the RTM build.

4x slot will work as long as its open ended and the card can fit in the slot properly.

Well for one I have not ever seen any one use 2 different video cars at the same time EVER so how am I misinformed ? If it can be done cool go for it I just see no point in it as there is going to be all kinds of conflicts when that OS starts up ( again I never seen this at all so I really am gong on what little I have read ) . I know that ATI can run Physx I also know Physx is OWNED BY NVIDIA ! Nvidia has all the rights to said Physx this is why it has taken so long for ATI to implement the use of it .

there is NO issues at all with drivers in 7. it uses all 32bit vista drivers

Am i being a dunce?

Well in the least it just means i have to wait for windows 7 (i really like 64bit) and won;t have to throw my old nvidia card in the garbage.
[edit] Does windows 7 32-bit support over 4g ram?[/edit]

vista you CANNOT DO IT.

no

no way

never

dont even try

waste of time

thats why MS is working on 7

and putting out shitty MOJAVE commercials to keep the $$$$$$$$$ rolling in from ppl upgrading to vista cause MS is tricking you into thinking its great and will be around for a long time like xp was/is. ITS A LIE. MS is trying to hurry along 7 but do it the right way but they need money. again MOJAVE project is how they are doing it.
