Hey guys;

I'm sorry if I'm gonna go about bringing up an old and much talked about problem, but since the old workaround doesn't work anymore I'm having trouble with fixed aspect ration scaling again.

I'm on a Notebook with HD5650 Mobility and now the newest 10.8 drivers (since I read somewhere 10.9 are not gonna be released for mobility)... I had 10.6 till a few minutes ago but the problem was the same...

Basicly if I run my display at native resolution, I loose the scaling options; be it centered or fixed aspect ratio and the GPU will always scale to full-size, streching the image and looking awefully bad... In older version (10.3 I think, but don't quote me on that) I was able to just set a lower resolution in desktop for a short amount of time, select the fixed aspect ratio and then reset nativ resolution. Although that would result in greying out the options again, the GPU would still scale old 640x480 games in 4:3 on my 16:9 Display, making them look smooth and properly proportioned...

It's quite a pain in the ass really, although one workaround would be to run the desktop with small borders of 3 pixels each (1360x768 instead of 1366) but that's not quite acceptable. Is there some kind of registry hack out in the wild, to enable the option or any other workaround? I'd be eternaly grateful for any help, but seriously; you'd think ATI fix this obvious driver misbehaviour instead of "fixing" possible workarounds. :mad:

Waddya mean there's no driver for your lappy?!

Worked beautifully for getting the very latest ATI drivers working on XP my new HP laptop with HD4530 graphics. :rockout:

XP isn't supported for mobility graphics for recent chips.

Thanks for the answer but that's not what I asked for :ohwell:

Cat 10.9 has a bug with Powerplay that makes your card not perform optimally under Battery so it's a no go for me; besides I prefer going with Ati's official WHQL drivers, now that they go all the way to release some.

Anyhow, I think I got a step closer to understanding why it won't work anymore but worked earlier. In older revisions of CCC the 3 options (Keep aspect ratio, Full-screen and Centered) would only grey out once I selected the native res of my Display (1366x768); now however keep aspect ratio disappears altogether and only full-screen/centered remain there greyed out

Now if I set a lower resolution all 3 options show up, but if I select "Keep aspect ratio" it automatically switches back to fullscreen. If I were however to select centered the selection would remain even after going back to native res, but I don't feel like playing my old games at around 7" in size.

Is there no registry setting for this? I can't believe noone knows of this, it's a pretty serious driver flaw... if I am not mistaken long-time member Mussles had a similiar problem but I haven't found anything recent about it from him. :cry:

Dunno, bit of a mystery to me.

However, I see you have it on the German language setting. I'm not being funny, but sometimes you get unpredictable bugs when using a language other than the default American English one. So try switching to that and see if it makes a difference.
