Id suggest waiting for the AMD 6xxx series - but if you cant get a Nvidia GTX460 as they are currently the most bang for buck cards on the market - however, if Nvidia isnt your thing, get a AMD 5850 - depending on overclocks it performs slightly better then a crossfired 4870 configuration. I went from a 4870 crossfire to a single 5850.

do note that the 5850 is a little more expensive then the 460, but the 5850 still out performs the 460 but by only a small margin.

If you CAN wait for the AMD 6xxx series - grab yourself a 5770 for the time being

If it's only for your GF and she's only running at 1680x1050, then you can easily get something like a 5770 or GTX 460, those cards should max almost every game at that res.

Or as mentioned above, you could wait for the 6 series which is right around the corner.

Your GF playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R???? :twitch:

Anyways, ATI cards usually work better with stalker games. Because the market is full of the 5XXX series, the 4XXX cards currently offer killer value. If your planing to get a 6XXX card then just buy a 4870. If you don't like the sound of that then either a 5770 or 5850 could do

Doubt it'll be worth the cost once shipping to Scotland is factored in.

You gotta be joking. A 9500gt is ill suited for playing Stalker. Do you know how demanding stalker is?

Have you ever play any stalker games? What they put in the system requirements for stalker games is total bullshit.

So you are saying that it is another failure like Crysis? The company who more or less said we screwed up the coding in the game so even the 5k systems had problems playing it. heh nice. :rockout:

What I am saying is I dont think you ever played the game and going by system requirements isnt really a good idea. But lets not go off topic here.

You can probably grab a 5770 for the time being...

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/760/5/

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Galaxy/GeForce_9500_GT_Overclocked/16.html

looks like it handles it okay at low res, since it would be temporary anyway, I don't see how that really matters.

Anyway...

If you are going to get something currently get a gtx 460 or a 5770 like everyone else said. Otherwise, I would pick up something older (9800gt/4870) for now and then get a nicer card like a 6xxx or even the power hungry gtx480 maybe.

guitarfreaknation -

Im not trying to be a jerk, i'm just saying your wrong. No, I haven't played the game, but I do remember when it came out in 07. The "fast" cards iirc where the x19xx and the 88xx cards, most currently low end cards can handle this now.
