What happened to 256bit?

Indeed! My 3850 runs 256bit on the old AGP bus...WTH happened?...all the new stuff is 128!

Meh. It's a 128-bit 4870x2. Not really that exciting, I'm just very surprised they pulled it off with just 1 6-pin. But functionality wise, 128-bit bus makes it useless for myself.

GDDR5 happened. With GDDR5 a 128-bit bus can provide the same bandwidth as a 256-bit bus with GDDR3/4 with a less complicated PCB and less memory chips.

GDDR5 happened a 3850 has GDDR3 with a 256bit bus gives 53gb/s bandwith and a 5770 with GDDR5 with a 128bit bus gives 78gb/s bandwith.

I'm supprised at the single 6 pin and size of the card, but i would expect it to have to be cheaper than a 5850 to be that useful as if you only want a single card then it becomes pointless after the price range of a higer powered single card although its low power usage and small size could be a good selling points over a more powerful single slot card if both are limitations within a prospective buyers computer/case.

Also the 5770 - 6770 re-brand story has no official source so it's just a maybe until these cards are released.

From this Review

Full speed HD 5750 is possible at 62 watts. So full speed of HD 5770 X2 under 150 watts should be possible. Maybe they are decrease voltage on core and memory.

the only thing that is worrying me is that if barts is the 68XX then will it be faster than the 5870 with the new shaders?

Why would anyone get this over a single 5870? I guess it depends on the price :\

The only reason I can think is it looks smaller than a 5870, so if you had a small case.

Considering you can save a lot of power through an efficient PCB design i'm not at all surprised they were able to pull this off with only one PCI-E power connector.

On topic....... I just hope that this becomes a success (at the right price point) and therefore other manufacturers adopt it otherwise it will become Sapphire's HD4850x2 which to be fair was a decent card but poorly supported generally...... Choice is always good.

It would be nice if maybe other more widly distributed brands could do this for a 6770 if there is the right kind of price and performance point for it to fit into.
I have to wonder if a dual 5/6770 might cut into the sales of 5830's 5/6850's (and 6830's if they will exsist) though.

+1 no prices even mentioned, just some trolling of people whinging about them when they have no idea how it will be priced and I presume that will set its position in the market as 2 5770's cost quite a bit less than a single 5870. Plus you get crossfire without the hassle of having 2 gpu's etc.

Id love to get one of these at the house to try out to be honest. Kind of sucks that it wont make its way here. As for Yeston, never heard of them either so maybe thats just over there. I did notice they didnt have any ramsinks on the mem chips on the back. Guess that is something for the buyer to use. Love to see if an aftermarket cooler put on this bad boy could get a nice oc.
