NEC Display Solutions Expands Enterprise Desktop Display Lineup

NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions, announced today the new 19" MultiSync EA192M and 20" widescreen MultiSync E201W to the desktop product lineup.

Compared to previous generations of NEC's desktop LCD monitors, the LED backlight technology in both the MultiSync EA192M and E201W allows less greenhouse gas emissions and reduces power consumption and heat radiation. These new LED-backlit models also use more recycled plastics, less hazardous materials and are mercury-free, a significant advantage when compared to conventional CCFL-backlit LCD monitors.



The ambient light sensor, which automatically adjusts the brightness to the optimal setting depending on ambient lighting, screen content or both, has been added to the MultiSync EA192M and E201W to further minimize power consumption. DisplayPort connectivity is also implemented on both models, providing expanded connectivity, along with VGA and DVI-D.

The 20" widescreen MultiSync E201W is a new size available as part of the MultiSync E Series. It features a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1600 x 900 native resolution. The 19" MultiSync EA192M features a 5:4 aspect ratio, 1280 x 1024 native resolution and has long been a highly desirable size for enterprise businesses. Its integrated down-firing speakers and headphone jack enables business conferencing. Both models feature a fully adjustable ergonomic stand, including 110mm height-adjust, pivot, tilt and swivel capabilities.

"Our goal is to help our customers lower their total cost of ownership throughout the life of the display and provide features that make daily operations simpler and more productive."

Below is a partial list of features included in the MultiSync EA192M and E201W:

• EPEAT Silver

The MultiSync EA192M and E201W will be available in November 2010 at an estimated street price of $239 and $199, respectively. Both ship with a 3-year parts and labor limited warranty.

NEC today < NEC yesterday

Enterprise employees do not spend their time watching 16:9 video. What is this nonsense with 900y and 1024y screens and dynamic contrast ratios? Back in year 2001, a 1280x1024 TFT was nice. But in 2011 it is plain nonsense. The electronic paperless office means we spend more and more of the time reading electronic documents, in flash or PDF format. We need more y.

And what is this about "down-firing" speakers? Is that some kind of nitrox intoxicated marketing department? And business conferencing? Without a mic? Where is the cam and where is the mic?

Price is nice. But resolution does not improve productivity of the employees it is supposed to help. 1200y or 1440y should be the minimum enterprise purchase today. And if 1920x1200 or 2560x1440 is too big and too wide, then let's see some 1600x1200 and 2048x1440 screens from NEC.

I think x is more important than y actually. It's nice to have y, but it's waaayyy easier to scroll up and down than sideways.

I agree on 1280x1024 is pointless nowadays though.

Oh Frick, I didnt say less x; so long as you can get a fully legible A4/Letter on the page width, font point 9, you are OK. To do this you need 1600x. But to have just 900y means you need to scroll A LONG WAY to be able to read just the one page. And when visually searching/orienting in documents, you want to have "view full page" and use PGUP and PGDN to turn the pages. It is horrible having to scroll up and down through a document in place of full-page and PGUP and PGDN. Trust me, from a guy that has to spend way too much time going through legal contracts, documents etc.
