Have an issue, accidentaly formated a harddrive. WD passport 500.
Are there any programs out there that can recover the files (most files are pictures)?

Thankful for any replies given.

You could try -

Recuva ,or

Some more Free tools here.

There are others like GetDataBack which have trial versions, just not sure if they will let you recover the data.

EDIT:I also have a copy of EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard, that I downloaded free when I saw this thread.
I have not installed it, to try yet, but can upload it and send you the link if you like.

EDIT II: Here is the upload link (MegaUpload) to the Easeus Recovery Wizard. Not sure how it works as it was just a three day give away thing.

I managed to salvage 500/650GB with GetDataBack.

Pity some video was still screwed, so i later deleted 100GB more...

getdataback is nice, but after you format it its better if you aint write any on it, and although the data can be recovered, theres no warranty it could be 100% readable

once you've overwritten the data, no software can get it back. (yes i know the <insert random govt organization> might be able to recover some data, but thats outside of what the OP can do)
