hey guys i haven't post on here in awhile. im needing a little help figuring out what to get next. i know i am set on upgrading my process and vid card, but want ur guys opinion.

first the process, i have to stay with a am2 so from what i read the fastest am2 is a Athlon 64 X2 6400+. well i read it was the best for gaming and what not. what do u guys think about it?

second the vid card, i am looking at wanting to get the nvidia 460. i dont like radeon so not getting that. if theres something thats as good as the 460 but cheaper let me know.

so i got like 200 to do this with, what r ur guys opinions on this? think i should get a different vid card or procees let me know. my specs i just updated, accept the benchmarks. i should be able to support what ever i get in talks of power supply and ram.

I coudlhave sworn I got a 7850BE dual core on an AM2 board with a bios update, in any case a CPU that will work should run you less than $50.

then I'd say the cheapest GTX460 768mb would be an excellent buy, overall giving you a butload more performance than youve got atm.

ya i read that too but being that its am2+ i wouldnt get the 3.0ht. so it would be kind of a waste

kind of a waste, but you still get a better CPU all around, if it will even work that is.

in any case looking up your CPU, moving to any athlonX2 that is dual core and over about 2.6ghz will make your system a heck of a lot faster, but everything considered you can probably score an AM2+/AM3 DDR2 mobo and a low end athon 2 chip for around 100, but you'd need another $50 to get the gfx card too.

thats already double the budget tho, a PII 560 with free 785G which support DDR2 sounds fantastic tho.

EDIT: oooh the athlon2 X4 with free 785G looks mint! I'm wondering if he can get a quad core and new board+gpu within his budget.

also consider perhaps a GTS450, its already more than 10x faster than your current gfx card.

Yea the I5 setup would be sweet if he could scrap up the dough but yea a potential quad system for 99$

Well what you could do is buy that kit then sell your current setup to fund your GPU

Thats alittle expensive for a board :(

Jr racing fans board would be better and cheaper :)

Thanks brandon

Even the 6400+ is still able to game, one heck of a chip so even if you want you could go board+ram(a 2nd 2x1GB kit)+vid card upgrade

EDIT:

Crap what am I thinking, you dont have a 6400+... umm ... **facepalm** now I feel embarassed..

i do like his board tho would be perfect but dont have the money to get everything. i gone throught geting mobo process and card in my head and the only thing i really need to old me over is a process and card. really i was only going to get a vid card but, alot of the games coming out want more processor.

Yea but its a single core 65nm 256mb cache chip :(

For 25$ you could have a 45nm Athlon II X2 dual core :)

*EDIT!!*

Also looking around the other forums, i found you a full quad for 55$ shipped!!

g0dM@n said:
* AMD Athlon X2 5000+ AM2+ (unlocks to X4, stable ~2.8ghz stock volts, screenshots available via PM) - NewEgg Link - $55 shipped
o This processor is actually a Denab core Phenom II X4 processor with two cores disabled, L3 cache disabled.
o I've got a screenshot showing 2826mhz, 1028mhz ddr2 5-5-5, Linkpack Auto (1 hour) stable - just bumped the CPU-NB +0.1v (for better stability and to stabilize memory), but I kept the vcore on stock volts!! This was with a stock x4 HSF - no special cooling. This was done on a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard.

Well from some of the things i read is that when AMD releases a chip like the Phenom II 555BE for example, it was originally a quad but they experienced some type of problem with it, whether it be a big or small problem so they say F*CK it and disable some of the cores, well motherboard manufacturers added ACC (Advanced Clock Calibration) that unlocks these cores for use. some people are lucky enough to get chips that will unlock and OC to 4GHZ! some unlock and clock decent but some do not unlock. its kinda a gamble
