Hi there,
I have recently had some trouble with my Radeon HD4870, after reading some forums I thought it would be a great idea to Flash the Bios with a later version, all good in principle, however I mad the error of using Win flash and now I am unable to get access to the Bios.
I have tried the following
1.Larger power supply now 680w
2.I have replaced the ATI PCI express card for a older Nvidia card which works, so I know my PCIe Bus works.
3. Used a USB dos ATIFLASH, but all I get is adapter not found. I have on board graphics that kick in so I am able to see whats occuring.
4. Tried using an old PCI graphics card to flash from but no difference.

I have read on an old thread that it may be possible to flash using a dual PCI express system. I unfortunatly dont have dual PCIe mother board and another ATI card so this is going to be difficult.
Does anybody know if there is abody who is able to offer this service??:(

Looks like your 4870's Bios is locked. Wait for other replies to know what to do.
And what was The problem with your card? Why need to flash, If it works, don't touch it.

Humm Locked,
Would I be able to see my adapter if it was locked, when i type ATIFLASH -i all I get is no adapters found.

i recall some other threads with more modern ATI cards, where they had to cut a pin to the BIOS chip on hte card, which allowed them to forcibly flash it. after flashing they re-soldered the pin back and all was well.

try searching for it, or wait for one of them to post here.

Hi Sorins, thanks for taking the time to post. I have just tried your suggestion but it didn't work. I keep getting the same answer,
adapter not found,
error 0fl01: press 1 to continue
I also typed ATIFLASH -i
and get adapter not found.
I have tried this with onboard graphics and also tried using a very old PCI GPU, same results

Thanks again for your assistance.

Hi again,Yep been using 3.79 also,
I don't think the windows method will work as I cant see the card in the device manager theres not even a IRQ assigned to it, I will give it a try though.
The guide is based on having a dual pci e system.

Any help is great.

Well i think you have to resolve the IRQ problem first.

Try clear CMOS.

If it does the same in another pc, i think its "fried"...
