MicroWorks introduces $7000 notebook

Although their claim that it is the "first dual core, SLI capable notebook" is untrue, this notebook still packs a good punch. The top spec version will feature a Dual Core AMD Turion X2, 20.1" screen, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 600GB of storage, a Blue-ray burner, dual 7950GTXs and extra options like a TV tuner. Being the most powerful notebook commercially available at this time, the Vega could find its use for gamers and designers who are often on the move. But it will take a large chunk out of your wallet -costing you $7,175 if you want the all-singing-all-dancing version. So far, no information about its weight has emerged but you can expect it to be reasonably heavy.

I was going to say the samething. This isnt a portable or a laptop. You will have to set it on ablock of dry ice to play it. Pretty damn impressive though, as far as gaming laptops go. If I had the money to afford it, I would probably get it just because it has impressive chops. However, I dont see many buying this, unless they have an outlet every 6 inches so they can move when need be and still have a power source.

to make that as a desktop should be around half the price but all that power in a laptop will surely be wasted, i bet that hardware would degrade quite fast im comparisson to a lower powered laptop.

I actually saw a guy at school with a custom built laptop similar to this (20 in screen, dual 7950, 4gb, dual hard drive, blue ray burner, etc). It costs him over $6000. The crazy part is that laptop was more than his car!

If any of you should decide to buy it, I strongly advise you to be sure you read the warranty on this product and get to know the hardware shop specialist who you will surely be asking for when it over heats and stops working. :D

this is stupid. who wants to lug around what will surely be a good 10 pounds of computer for 7000 dollars. laptops are supposed to be portable. i cant possibly see a market for this.

Maybe not in the US but here in Japan where space is limited, people rather have a laptop but have power like a PC to use at home. There is a big market for this! We call them fixed NotePCs for the desk. :D
