You cannot 3 way CF 6800 series, as afaik. Best choice is to wait for 69xx and get them to CF, or get GTX 570 SLI, but in my opinion the best is still to get a GTX 580.

You can't do 3 way SLi with the GTX460 either.

Get the GTX 580. I had the 4870 1GB Crossfire, very similar to your 4870x2, and couldn't be happier with the GTX 580. Not only the performance is better, but it is more silent and I don't have any dual graphics (SLI or Crossfire) problems.
You could wait for the 6970, of course, if you prefer AMD.

gtx580 or the 5970?

It depends what you want. Value for money neither card. If you do not care about value for money but you want the best performance from what I've seen on TPU's review the 5970 is slightly faster. If you want my honest opinion the 4870x2 is still one of the fastest ATI video card an upgrade makes little sense, I would keep it. Maybe find a second 4870x2 for cheap on eBay and CF. Two 4870x2s in CF should perform as fast if not faster than a single GTX 580 or ATI 4970 and for cheaper too.

what is the recommanded power supply for 2 4870x2 lol

I couldn't honestly tell you, I'd say anything over 500w with 70% efficiency from a trusted brand. Which model/brand PSU have you got ATM?

You could get yourself a second hand HD4870 1gb & just use that crossfire with your HD4870x2

3x 4870 cores should be enough surely.

I went from a 4870x2 to a 5870.

Given the choice, the 5870 is the better of the two plus no messing with profiles.

With the 5900 cards coming in a week I'd hold on and wait to see what unfolds.

By the way I'd go with two 5870s over two 4870x2s any day of the week. The extra Rops of the 5870 really help a lot.

what is the recommanded power supply for 2 4870x2 lol

I would go for at least an 850w. I run my 2x 4870x2 with an Antec truepower quattro 1000w and I use every bit of it but I have plenty of other components in my system that suck a lot of juice also so YMMV.

but the 4870x2 doesnt support dx11... its important difference on graphic? lol

You'll be absolutely fine. The change from DirectX10 to DirectX11 was evolutionary rather than revolutionary, and as such, backward compatibility is relatively trivial and built into DirectX 11 directly:

You will be able to run a game, using the game's DirectX11 codepath, directly on DirectX10.1 hardware (such as the 4870x2). You will be missing out on a few DirectX11-only features such as tessellation, and you will be using shader model 4.1 instead of 5.0, but your experience should not be too far off.

In fact, many of the pioneering advancements that DirectX10.1 introduced over 10.0 were never widely used at the time, but were ultimately rolled into DirectX11. So as odd as it might sound, it is via the 10.1 downlevel compatibility path in DirectX11 that many of us with 10.1 cards will finally be making full use of our hardware. :)

My experience with Quad Crossfire has been very good. In Bad Company 2 I get better FPS than my friend who has a 5970 and an amazing amount of games work great with quad crossfire, including old games that you wouldn't even expect to work such as World of Warcraft and Source engine based games. ATI now releases crossfire application profiles separate from the drivers allowing you to keep your crossfire compatibility at top notch without having to constantly install new drivers.

If you were starting from scratch I would probably recommend going another route, but it's going to be impossible to beat the performance you will be able to get by adding another 4870x2 for anywhere near the price.
