Old hardware: Ubuntu 10.10 or XP pro sp3 ???

I have an old computer i will use for download should i use ubuntu 10.10 32bits or xp pro sp3?

Intel Celeron 1.2gigs FSB 100mhz
640megs pc133
Onboard audio
Onboard lan 100mbps
Onboard video up to 64megs(16megs should be enough just to use it as download rig)
20 gigs hdd
cd burner
floppy

Message for the freaks out there: NO I WON'T BUY OR PUT ANY OTHER PARTS IN IT NEITHER EXPENSE TO UPGRADE IT MY QUESTION IS SOLELY BASED ON THE OPERATING SYSTEM ITSELF :banghead:

Does it contain a valuable cd burning software like Nero or Ulead? Is it able to install .EXE programs or i should download programs for Ubuntu/Linux? I wanted to install Frostwire and it is able to be installed in ubuntu.

No linux takes exe or has Nero or Ulead. Most distros have their own burners built in. Linux doesn't work like Windows, where you just download an exe and double click it. You either have to use the distro's package manager, or you have to manually resolve all of a program's dependencies, and install the program manually. Google and linux specific forums are your friends there.

And you can install Frostwire from the tarballs. (AKA: Generic linux package, needs to be installed manually.)

Some info on how to do manual installs in puppy: http://puppylinux.org/wikka/compiling

Or you can browse some puppy specific repos to see if they have a Frostwire package already built for puppy.

Thats why I wanted ubuntu or xp ..... this linux is too complicated for a noob like me and i dont have much time to learn it. Manually configuration of softwares piss me the hell off.

Ubuntu is a Linux distro. You do get that right?

Try Xubuntu then. It is just like Ubuntu, but uses Xfce as the Desktop environment. It makes it leaner and works better on older hardware.

I don't get whats being said, can't you just use burn Ubuntu to CD through some third party software and do the install from there?

I would use Ubuntu for a download PC not to hard to use or Sabayon which is fully loads but big download & install

LiveCD, LiveDVD, install on a Thumb Drive, and install as a program within Windows. There are a lot of ways to get your Linux on.

Just under the "logout" button in the top right corner of the site, you will see "Thread Tools." The "Close Thread" option is under that.

BST is the only section that allows you to close your own threads, iirc.
