Hmm, so maybe it's simply my almost 4 year old processor and crappy ram.

ram doesnt make too big a performance difference, but its possible you are CPU limited.

so what you have a 1000w unit with 6 12v rails awesome you do realize that if any of those rails cant output enough power to your GPU your still fucked right? because in reality those 6 12v rails are just 1 12v rail seperated to 6 so any power your system could use on all those other rails is trapped so unstable power can and will still be an issue

Excerpt from the Johnny Guru review
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=155

Sigh. Well, we were doing good, and then the wheels kind of fell off and ran over a poor stray cat. Everything is in spec during the progressive load tests, but the Mach 1 had a herky-jerky thing going on with its ripple suppression; and things were only barely in spec by test five. Look at that - 119mV at 12V. Two more millivolts and it would have been out of spec. But it is in the two crossload tests where things get truly ugly, for we are out of spec on both tests. There's the 5V hitting 70mV in test CL1, and the 12V hitting 140mV in test CL2. Wow. Don't crossload this one, folks.

for shits and giggles put the card in the other rig there identicle after all correct?

Another case of somebody not reading the original post.

I'm laughing so hard right now.

I have the Mach 1 1000w which is an upgrade I just haven't put it in my specs on the forums yet.

Those 12v rails are still not overly impressive, especially at that price point. Not to mention severe overkill for your system so i hope you got a deal on it. I don't see that being your problem, though.

Shuddup woman get on mah horse.

Anyway.

I'm starting to think it's my processor. If ram doesn't make THAT much of a difference.. the only terribly old component I have left is my processor, which wasn't amazing in the first place.

so... your thinking a 3ghz yorkfield quad is a bottleneck when im running 2x 6970s on a stock 965be thats only on par its not your cpu at least not with it clocked to 3ghz as im far more bottlenecked then you are and i still get some form of scaling from the dual cards. i dont think its ram either id try borrowing a stick of ram to put in the rig for a round 4gig see if it fixes the issues

otherwise run cpu-z and see if the ram is listed in single channel takes all of 20 seconds to find that out.

I need a good set of DDR2 ram. I'm not sure if I should get the extra one or just get another faster set of 4.

faster ram wont make a difference just run CPU-z see if its listed as dual channel or single. i can say this going from 4gig DDR2 800 to 4gigs 1333 cl7 made 0% performance difference in gaming in terms of FPS. and that was a 940be to 965 across a 4870x2 2x 5850s and 2x6970s

next test is if you really think its ram run memtest and let it run awhile if it turns up no errors its not the ram

Do NOT replace the cpu. Instead, check whether things like power management are done properly as the CPU might be sticking with idle clocks (2000 MHZ). So check wether the energy management profile selected in the control panel is "balanced" (and not "power save").
You might profit from a fresh OS install as well, and then I of course mean an install on your 2 TB SATA drive and not on the 500GB PATA disk.
And do not forget to use the latest version available for every driver (including network, chipset etc.)

Upping RAM will not make a difference, as CrazyEyesReaper already stated.

I'll look at the power settings.

Everything is set to high performance and 100% and such for processor power.

Last time I installed mobo/chipset drivers or any drivers except sound/video was about a year ago. Not too familiar on drivers aside from audio/video as far as where to find them/how important they are.

Got the latest chipset driver just in case. Gonna game for a little bit and report back.

Is it perhaps a setting in the catalyst control center? or perhaps a crappy driver? I know ATI has a history for funky drivers.

It's not the speed of the ram, it's the quantity... The only difference between his system and his fathers is that his has 3Gb in comparison to his father's which has 4gb. Why not start there?

i still feel its the PSU crappy out i had PCP&C silencer 750 that i had to RMA awhile back its 12v rail was dipping down to 11.5v still supposedly within spec but my system would crash etc changing out to a Corsair at the time fixed it once the new unit arrived from RMA it worked fine again but i needed more power so sold it off for an 850hx before i bought 2x 6970s. So i still think the card should be tested in the other PC if it works fine then the cards fine and if the ram passes memtest it would point to either mobo issue or power issue at least in my mind. but w.e

Has your FPS gone up in Wow yet? have you tried that fix? The problem you describe was the EXACT same issue my m8 had going from a 9600GT to a GTX460 and it fixed his issue.

Bad Company 2 im not sure of.

Use OCCT to test the core and the memory on the card.

He should run 3dmark on both systems and compare scores. It will tell us the bottleneck in his system or if it's just a bad card/hardware.

Ran 3dMark 11, about half the tests gave me 10fps and under using the Performance preset which is lower than my native resolution.

My results: Video driver not approved.

Installing 10.12, gonna see if that makes a difference.

Ran again, after installing 10.12 drivers.

Still saying drivers not approved and that I have version 8.801.0.0.

I just installed the latest drivers... and I did it correctly.

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/296214

Also: Is that 400mhz ram without the dual data rate? or is it actually 400mhz because that would probably explain a lot.

no its dual data rate

example DDR3 1333 shows up at 666mhz with CPUZ

3dmark is retarded they only every aprove drivers once in a blue moon and there never up to date drivers either so thats a moot point.
