Ye MW2 will work with two pc's on the same internet connection via a rooter. Sadly the same carnt be said for black ops. To get both my rigs on black ops, same server/match i need to use ICS & disconnect the rooter.

If both pc's have dual lan sockets, one of which is spare you could run a really long lead between the two and simply turn the connections off in windows when needed, etc?

Its an arse you should need to do that just to play a game but it could save the hassle of having to swap over cables all the time, etc.

And what about me & other people here in latin america where broadband speeds are #$$%%&$#"$%$%%$#%. Here, 512kbit/s is the standard, with 1mbit/s getting going now. But comparing that to countries like USA or UK, our one is rubbish. What shall we do?

^ As bad as it may be where you live, it could be worse. Where I lived last (in rural Michigan), there was nothing available except dial-up. Even my mobile broadband card was limited to dial-up speeds!

Theres only the one lan cable i need to swop over in order to change from using the rooter or ICS. Done a diagram ;)

Swopping the lead & rebooting both pc's makes windows change connection automaticly.

Oh let me tell you that those internet speeds are spectacular compared to what we're forced to deal with in Southern Africa.
Even if we do get US$1000+ 512kb/s connections here, it still won't work, because ISPs here haven't yet switched to terrestrial fibre links and are on Satellite links, meaning latency (ping times) are too high for most games at ~1000ms!:banghead:

What a disappointment these games are to us all. I administrate LAN parties & let me tell you, it's torture maintaining the numbers because of being forced to stick to older titles!:shadedshu:cry:

Onto Cod:waw this game was impossible to run online on two pc's through a rooter & single internet connection. Even with two legit copys of the game (IP in use error on one pc) i managed to get around this by connecting my pc's via internet connection sharing & doing away with the rooter. But wot a piss about that is.

Onto MW2 this game wont connect both pc's online at same time via Internet connection sharing so its back the rooter ( Works ok apart frm its sometimes a game get both pc's to connect to the same match )

Onto back opps ( No MP via Lan ! ) As on MW we can get both pc's to connect online ok but trying to both join the same match/server is a nightmere :shadedshu ( Unable to connect error ) & when we finally do get on the same match its very likely one of us will get kicked ( Duplicate port use error ) :shadedshu

Now i need to get round to testing black opps with both rigs connected via internet connection sharing to see if this helps us both join the same server. But to be honist i doubt it will even let me use ICS in the same way MW2 doesnt.

Would appreciate some feedback on this subject? There must be other TPU members who run multiple gaming rigs

Yeah they are pretty much making it impossible with out buying multiple copies. I have 2 copies of BFBC2 and they play fine with each other.
I have them friended with each other. Call of Duty W@W I only have one copy of and I can play LAN games if done right.
You have to shut down dedicated servers when trying to hook up I think. Call of Duty 4 you go offline and can run LAN games.

Multi player via Lan is an option thats being left out of many new game releases these days.
Ok you might say well you can just play online with your m8's !

True but if you happen to own two or more gaming pc's that connect to the same modem / rooter this option seems to becoming a real pain in the arse.

I have two gaming rigs in my living room connected to broadband & rooter. Me & my lad enjoy teaming up online on games such as call of duty: ****

This seems to becoming a almost impossible thing to do these days :shadedshu

Take MW for instance. When this game first came out i was able to install the game on both my pc's using same CDkey & was able to get both pc's running on the same match on a server :) Afew months down the line this stopped working ! ( PB kicked on one pc for duplicate cd key )

Ok fair enough so i brought another legit cdkey. Problem sorted ! Nope ( Pb kicked on one pc about IP address in use )

We play with 18 people on the same cable connection, the key in MW is for one person to create a game and the others to join on it.

i know, i still go to respawn, which averages 400 people. the problem is that there is no Fing way anyone can get enough internet for 400 people for only a few days, so these kinds of games are impossible to play, so its slowly killing LAN events

It would be great if there was one ISP that did this SPECIFICALLY - if an ISP can provide the equipment and internets for 200-400+ people for 3-7 days for a 1 off payment that would be great. instead of having 12-18month contracts - payments are per event.

but the bad thing is entry fees to the event would probably need to go up a little to support this

its physically impossible. you think they're gunna run fiber optic cabling magically to the events?

and secondly - who says that fibre optics cant be put in?? maybe the venue already has it put in - maybe the lan parties need to be hosted in specific places where these feature can be provided

Unless your in the UK - then fine - a lot of the shit we use here still dates back to pre-war - but some places have fibre optics put in, in fact the UK is trying to adopt it at the moment, but there are still only a handful of ISPs that have taken up fibre optics so progress is slow.

Im pretty sure it can be done - fibre can be put in at a venue but its more or a permanent thing. it might cost a lot to put in but over a period of time it will pay for itself. all the venue owner needs to do is to keep hosting events to keep the income, but then saying that entry fees will spiral out of control as they need to pay for so bills

you dont seem to get it.

you can wire up the building with fiber all you want - but you need fiber all the way along the network. you need fiber at the venue, to the exchange, to the POP/exchange the ISP is running from...

its not the kind of thing that can be wired up quickly. they're doing it australia wide atm, and they plan on it taking years - and thats with a hell of a lot of money behind it.
