Hi there,

I was wondering if there is a tool for DDR3 RAM that can automatically tune timings/voltage to find optimal settings?

cheers,
L.

Nope, aside from the XMP setting on the ram, there isnt an auto-tune app for everything.

This is the output of CPU-Z. I assume that's not the optimal/fastest timings.

Where can I find the best settings for this RAM?

You should be able to run them at the 7-7-7 timings that are set under the XMP heading of the second screenshot.

Thanks for reply.

What's the best way to tune a system? Do I have to set the timings in my BIOS & reboot? Or are there tools to do this while the systems keep running.

I noticed in some other thread a tool called "CPU-Tweaker" - is this any good?

you can use CPU tweaker, but I would suggest going to bios and setting the timings.

Edit:
CPU-twearker will help find timings, but you will need to reset it every time you reboot.

Bios level, set it, test it, run it like that forever.

Two problems with CPU tweaker:
1) I can't change CAS in "Timings". It is fixed to 9. How can I change this?
2) What about the values in "Other Timings"? Where can I find good values for those?

Ok since CPU-tweaker is out. GO to the bios. Set the timings of the XMP tab into the bios.

It will help tremendously if you could fill out your user specs so that I can help you a little more than just general answers.

Looks like hes only running single channel with horrible timings, you will have to set everything for your RAM in the bios

I never touched the timings so far. And I am using single channel because I was once reading that it doesn't make a difference. Wrong?

My system: AMD Phenom II X4 965, 2x2GB DDR3 (G.Skill F3-10666CL7-2GBRH)

How much difference (for memory bound applications) can I expect when I use more optimal settings (7-7-7 timings instead of 9) ?

alot it will make things a bit smoother and feel snappier and running dual channel is what your suppose to do no one runs single channel ever really whomever said it dosent make a difference should get there head stuck in a vice while everyone else in the tech world kicks them in the balls for that stupidity.

should be able to "feel"' the performace change, AMD CPUs love lower timings over speed.

also dual channel will add some speed to the fell as well. IS there a reason it is in single channel.
