Now that you see the performance with Sandy Bridge will you buy?

Take a look at Asus's P8 series. And, if you have a Micro Center near you take a look at what they are offering on the 9th (well at least it's now confirmed at a retail level).

Yes, I see they'll have the SB procs available on the 9th, too bad the closest store is over two hours north from my house :( I cannot think of any way of convincing the wife to take a trip to Santa Clara for no particular reason :p Thank you for the link though ;)

Do you expect to see a big markup on the 2600K on release date?

I never expected this to be a paper launch, I read you can get SB procs in Europe and Asia from many retail stores already, although prices are way higher than MSRP and stores have limited stock in most cases...

It's not clear but it should cost MSRP for the most part if you look around the web. If you have a local store that will sell it call them and ask. Right now the choice is 2500K which is just a 4 core CPU without hyperthreading and the 2600K that comes with HT. Both should allow for some decent OC. The only way we know how well the non K versions will do is wait for user reviews.

i'm not gonna upgrade, i find this as more of a sidegrade to people who already have x58, you lose memory bandwidth, pci-e lanes, etc.

didn't intel only give VT to the locked 2500 and 2600? i think i saw somewhere that the k chips had this feature disabled.

If it was as hot and consumed as much power as the x58 I would agree. However because SB can be just as fast (if not better) then an i7 at lower thermals, lower power consumption and lower cost it's an attractive option for those who take those factors into consideration. And for gamers, the bandwidth is certainly not hampering it's performance at all.

Based on those factors I never saw the x58 as an attractive offer. When there are other alternatives that will work just as well.

i found the x58 attractive because i wanted the highest performance possible at the time
i'm one of those people who doesn't really care about power consumption too much

i think most people who have LGA775 will upgrade to SB, while most of the i5/i7 quad cores will probably wait for LGA1356/LGA2011

I've found "highest possible performance" a relative term, if not frivolous. As one would still need to OC the CPU anyway. Which is why I said there are other alternatives. As one would still OC those alternatives anyway. :D

In any case, this thread really isn't about why you wanted an x58 it's about SandyBridge. And those who will buy are not limited to 775 socket.

i think someone needs to relax, i answer whether i would buy SB or not, and then i said why i found x58 attractive unlike you, i never said this thread was about me. dont get your panties in a bunch

IMHO SB is an excellent upgrade option for ppl like me on Socket 775 systems, but ppl on 1366 can still wait if they don't care about new features like AVX, Quick Sync, enhanced AES and P67 features like faster SATA III, UEFI, support for 3TB drives and faster boot times on comparable systems; but it's undeniable that OC potential on SB procs is outstanding compared to all current procs if you get the unlocked K series.

I'm pretty sure these features and many more will be available for socket 2011 down the road.

Anyway, I'm very excited, as this morning FEDEX knocked on my door and greeted me with this:

My new 1155 mobo! Provantage exceeded my expectations!

This mobo is really heavy! The heatsinks look very sturdy and the 24 phases power arrangement makes my Asus Striker II look puny by comparison :p

I cannot wait for the procs to be available! What do you guys think?

Yes, you do need to relax. Your feeling about x58 isn't relevant to this thread other then to derail it. This thread really isn't about any personal attachment you have with x58. So lets keep the thread on track, thanks.

Back at the ranch, nice board 15th Warlock. That didn't take long did it? Have you decided on which CPU you are getting?

Thanks, it was a pleasant surprise (today's my day off ;) ) Provantage exceeded all my expectations :rockout:

I'm getting the i7 2600K, hopefully I don't have to pay too high a markup to get it, but I expect the usual suspects will do some price gouging on availability :(

I hope I'm wrong though, and don't have to pay higher than MSRP ;)

Planing on using my current RAM, Kingston Hyper-X DDR3 2000Mhz T1 Series, I looked at my mobo's RAM compatibility chart and it's listed fortunately :)

Will have to get rid of my old IDE CD and DVD burners though :p

lol when did i ever not sound relax? i saw the performance with SB and i was a little disappointed, hence im sticking to my platform. i didn't turn the thread into "why i love x58", i just said why i bought it when it came out, and i did not say that only LGA775 people would buy it, i said they will be the majority of people who are looking for an upgrade....end pointless conversation

It's common knowledge that people willing to upgrade will. Those who don't plan on upgrading won't. There is no specific group that will or won't. For you to get into an argument about it with the OP is a form of trolling :slap:. If you weren't so upset about all this you should moved on several posts ago. But you think your relaxed, right .

Good of you to check 1st so that's pretty much sorted. Getting a SATA DVD should still be fairly cheap. Assuming you are going air for cooling try to find a decent bracket for it. If I'm not mistaken the HSF that comes with the cpu actually comes with one.

Yes, will look into that later on :) A SATA BD-RW drive wouldn't be bad either, huh? Gotta wait a couple months to recover from the investment though :p

How 'bout you mate, is there a SB upgrade in your future, or will you wait 'til Ivy Bridge or perhaps Bulldozer?

Will stick to my H70, the fine folks at Corsair were kind enough to include a 1156 bracket with it that should fit my 1155 mobo quite nicely :p

I'm holding off right now but that may change. I see no need to hold off for Ivy Bridge as it's my opinion that won't show up until 2012. But we will see. :D

Hmm, found more information on overclocking and the Z68 MB is coming. However, it's still not clear if the Z68 will offer anything better for the average users than a P67 offers at a higher price point. Here is a video showing you the difference:

Z68 chipset has onboard graphics + it allows for overclocking
P67 chipset has no onboard graphics but allows for overclocking
H67 chipset has onboard graphics but doesn't allow for overclocking

Edit:
Only the K edition CPU's can achieve ram speeds higher than 1333 MHz.
Only the 2600 series offer hyperthreading.
The BLK is not locked, but the pll on die generates the clock for EVERYTHING. So it's not recommended to overclock the BLK.
