I have a question about Crossfire. So if any of you guys have experience in that area, please let me know:

Right now I have a single xfx radeon 6950 (unlocked to be like a 6970). I have 2 G skills Ripjaws RAM sticks (4gb each) advertized as 1600mhz capable and 9 9 9 24 timings. Which is what I have right now...

My systems runs at 4ghz on 2 cores and 4.2ghz on 1 core :rockout:. When playing Crysis with all settings to "very high" with my graphics card 3d options to the max (in CCC), I get around 30 FPS average. Now that's not so bad when you consider that this game pulls everything from any PC system.... especially with EVERYTHING at Very high...

Now I've been thinking: What could allow me to get a decent 60FPS in crysis with everything to the MAX. Should I get another radeon HD 6950 card (unlocked) in crossfire with the one I have to get that FPS and performance increase???

Or is the performance more likely to increase if I get better RAM. When I bought my RAM, I thought I had a really good pair of sticks... but I've done some more research lately only to discover there is better RAM than mine... and even "Crossfire Certified RAM" or "SLI certified RAM" out there. Some people seem to think you MUST have those in order to see the performance difference when going for Crossfire.

Also, right now, my motherboard supports up to 4 RAM sticks... My two sticks are set on 2 different channels instead of the 2 being next to each other. Is that the right way to go?

Would overclocking my actual RAM increase my FPS at all?

There you have it, I know it's a lot of questions... Keep in mind I'm a novice at overclocking and Gaming... I've been gaming mostly on my xbox 360 for the last 8 years and I've just converted back to the Dark side of Gaming (PC gaming :D)

What you ask is to double your FPS. Better RAM (like 2000Mhz CAS 8) will give you maybe 5% more FPS, not 100% more. So your best options are : going SLI / Crossfire or a better overclocking. You wrote "4Ghz with 2 cores". Is your processor only a dual-core ? If so, going to a quad-core can help too.

And you can also enjoy your already pretty good 30FPS with maxed setting :)

Yeah, forgive me, I forgot to mention what my CPU is...

I have a i7 875k... That's a quad core, but you're wrong about that speeding up the performance that much... because most games don't even support quad cores... or 6 cores... Most support dual core or single core. Although it is true that having a quad core enhances multi-tasking. (Maybe if I was running a dozen other programs in the background... which I don't really)...

I've also read I could disable "Hyper threading"... but I don't think that's a good idea since I'm pretty sure it will useful to have it when I multi task on my computer... when not playing games...

Oh and I wrote "with 2 cores" and "with 1 core" because the i7 875k supports turbo technology which allows the system to adjust the CPU speed depending on the workload...

So I don't think quad core will help... unless there was some way to "force" crysis to use all cores...

True, I verified and Crysis only use 2-3 core at max. So you can only try a better overclock, or change your video card / try crossfire. 3 GTX580 or 2 OC radeon 5970 like the ASUS ARES (the fastest radeon on the planet http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/ARES_CrossFire/7.html) should help your going near 60FPS

You could try lowering your resolution. :p Seriously though, it's gonna take a ton of muscle to get 60fps in Crysis. Another 6950 (to 6970) would probably get you to about 50-ish fps.

What resolution are you playing at? If it's pretty high, then you can turn down AA. You will likely not notice any extra aliasing and the performance boost from your card will be significant.

The other thing to do is get a GTX 580 if you can afford it. Now, be aware that the mighty 580 still only scores 60fps at 1280x1024 as shown in this TPU review and the settings aren't even maxed, so I think you're asking for the impossible here.

This game is one tough m/f and doesn't run fast on even modern hardware with settings maxed out. This has lead many people to believe that the game engine is just badly written and won't run smoothly on anything.

My reason for not playing it? 5 machine activation DRM limit. Any DRM other than Steam I boycott. Period.

Finally, fill in the system details in your profile, dude. ;)

Your ram sounds like it's set up right. it's best to check the manual tho, it will tell you which slots should be poplulated.

If you disable hyper-threading you won't notice a difference at those clocks for day-to-day usage. If you do any video encoding, graphic design, cruniching, or other cpu intensive tasks then you should keep hyper-threading enabled.

The only thing you can do now to get better FPS is to get another 6950, like other people have recommended.

It would be very helpful if you could list your system specs, just click on User CP and on the right click on "Edit System Specs"

Your RAM & CPU should be fine, i would concentrate on another video card if you really want more performance in Crysis:toast:

another 6950 will get you in the 50-55fps range also id suggest reseting the memory clock on your 6950 back to the 6950s defaults but the leave the core clock where it is and do a run through with the crysis bench tool because in general you could be losing performance due to the memory being unstable *amd cards from the 5000 and 6000 series auto correct issues with the ram speeds so instead of showing artifacts it just causing a performance drop so plan accordingly.

that said im running an AMD rig at at 1920x1200 Enthusiast aka Very High 4xAA i average 55fps intel rig should net you around 60fps due to the intel cpu being faster clock for clock.
