Club3D HD4870 512mb poor overclocking!

I have that card and I have put accelero on it. Temperatures are max. 65c on furmark. I have 140mm fan cooling it. My results are 800-820mhz core and 950-1000mhz mem. If I put 1mhz more on mem or core it will show artifacts. Raising vGPU 1.26-1.35 on msi afterburner doesn't help anything. Is my card going to graveyard, does it have very very low overclockin potential or what? Does somebody have a modded bios which I can try?

I think your results are fine for what card you have and remember, they are all different.


If you want 1GHz on the core then buy some 5xxx/6xxx goodness.

Overclocking the memory will give you almost no performance at all and it will keep you from going higher on the core because it will make your card hotter. By the way, how do you manage to go higher than 790mhz? I've tried many programs on my HD4870 and they won't allow me to go higher than 790.

Even MSI Afterburner won't let me set the core past 790mhz, I already tried.

Did you enable unoffcial overclocking?


If not, do the following....


Locate this file:

Open with Notepad


Change value of this....

From 0 to 1

Problem solved.

I'm going to try MVDDC and MVDDQ pencil mods. Do I need hb or hb2?

I can't understand that Vcore raising doesn't help at all. I can get same results @ 1.20 and 1.35. core doesn't take over 820mhz. I can't understand how this is possible!

its the limit man sometimes how much u increase the voltage it wouldn't be stable it isn't designed to run at these speeds it have multi factors
1-the voltage regulators wouldn't handle the load or its voltage have too much ripple
2-bad GPU ,
3-its the limit man they changed the card internals GPU to let the 4890 run @850 or something they put coupling capacitors in the silicon die
4-just replace yours with 5xxx or 6xxx cuz it isnt economical from power/perf +512mb isnt good any more
