Replacing a quick release bracket...

I have a thermaltake Armor+. A solid case in many regards, except this one; the pci quick release bracket is a terrible design. Basically, I want to replace mine with another type, so that I'll still have quick release for my cards, but I want to replace the one I have, which is now useless.

My favourite quick release are those fan ( they also hold side panel windows sometimes) pegs you can get, hollow split bit and a peg.

Get yourself metal ones of those and you have best quick release you can get for a pci-e plate.

Hell plastic ones do fine but I would'n't trust them holding up certain cards.

I'm not sure what you're describing honestly. What are these things?

Actually, I think I know, the sorts of pegs used for holding a fan to a cpu cooler or something similar I think, right? I'm not sure I've ever seen metal ones at all. And have no idea where to get them.

Aye sorry, morning makes me useless at English.

Wasn't until afterwards I realise they're a type of pushpin.

Do they make those pushpins for PCI expansion card slots? Or ones that would work? I'm getting sort of desperate to replace this thing somehow.

Just realized the Brits are getting up, when I should be in bed for several hours now...My mind's in no better shape likely.

Anyone else have any suggestions for me? I'm at a bit of a loss for how to do this.

Worth a try, the Thermaltake Armor + looks like it could accommodate one.
My previous case would have, as it was a Lian-Li PC-7FNW. Although it came with thumbscrews, it was upgraded to include that bracket in the next revision.
Good luck:cool:

Thanks Retro, those are nice.
I can see theubersmurf's disdain, as I had to use screws in place of the plastic to hold the card in place and a support rod to keep the card from sagging.:)
You're welcome!
I never did like the older, original cheap plastic pci-e card quick release assemblies, as they weren't very strong. Most of them have been improved now, but a modern high-end card does need a lot of support, which seems to be lacking in many cases.

Good old-fashioned thumbscrews hold well, but for a large heavy card they aren't perfect either.
It would be nice to see a better design for video card support, to hold the card better and, as you mentioned, to avoid sagging.

There is a hexagonal mesh that my current expansion card holder attaches through with a set of screws. I'm thinking that either the existing holes will work well enough, or I can drill a couple without worrying too much. My case can accomodate 10 slots, while the Lian-Li expansion slots release you linked me to is only seven, but it will be worth it, as my current mobo only has seven expansion slots. I think it's both likely to work at least resonably well.

10 Slots, that's a big case. As you say, you only need 7 slots for the motherboard so there are enough. I haven't seen any 10-slot brackets though! Even this Lian-Li 10-slot monster seems to use some other kind of retaining assembly:

http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/produc...ex=217&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=61&g=f

If there is any modding required then drilling out any holes shouldn't be too difficult.
